Dealing with operator communication relays can always be challenging although we try, but the team of staff and doctors was very kindly receiving once I finally arrived, and Miss Zoe in the end was exceptionally kindly, intelligent, and nice to suggest me the right spectacle glasses for me. Such good basic kindly caring treatment was what I needed since a very long time! Thank you team acuity La Jolla. It’s truly very much appreciated! 🙂

In July 2025, I had a most disappointing experience at Acuity Eye Group. The issue centered solely on eyeglass pricing. I received charming, attentive service from Valentina, who made me feel valued and gave me excellent service. My credit card was charged immediately. I was told that most of the cost would be covered by my medical insurance. A week after my visit, I was called by Valentina, who told me that my insurance would not pay for the eyeglasses and quoted me a much higher price. Since I was quoted incorrect figures and was unwilling to pay a much higher price, I asked for the charge to be reversed. She told me that "no refunds are issued and there is a large sign on the wall behind where I sit, and did I not see it"? After weeks of back-and-forth, my credit card company reversed the charge, and I vowed never to use Acuity Eye Group again. In September, after I thought this unpleasant issue had been put to bed, *another* charge for the same amount appeared on my credit card. I am presently trying to contact the office, and this is utterly impossible! To anyone out there who needs to talk to a live person, don't expect to get any response from Acuity Eye Group anytime soon! The phone recording says, "If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately". After trying for two days now to get hold of anyone, I may take their advice! :-(

Everyone is really nice and welcoming. I came to my appointment late due to traffic and they still accepted me. The wait was short and all the staff answered any questions I had with a smile. I definitely recommend coming to Acuity Eye Group!!

horrible experience today. was there for my roommates appointment 15 min earlier and nobody was waiting. We waited 45 minutes. Then was seen by a staff member that didn't seem to know what she was doing. She said to my roommate sorry computer is slow but she was just trying to login google and kept putting wrong info in and opening and closing browser. They should not be allowed to touch patients eyes! this office has very old technology and they have a handheld device to measure the pressure and they tell the patient that I'm going to touch your eyeball with this, bad idea. They still do the dilation here. she was not able to measure the pressure and tried many times. my poor roommates eye was scratched and very painful for a few hours. then another staff came in and put more green drops in and she couldn't do it either. So where is the doctor? we came to see the doctor. He kept saying don't touch my eyes and they kept trying. we just walked out. All the bottles on the counter were dirty and disgusting. do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, even Lenscrafters will do a much better job and clean and modern equipment.

Referred when optician had concerns. Everyone is super nice. Large office, lots of patients. It's in the Ximed Bldg but the lobby directory doesn't list "Acuity" it lists individual doctors. I had no idea of the doctor I was scheduled to see so I had to call from the lobby to the acuity 800# to figure out where I was going so make sure to bring the doctor/ suite info.

The customer service at this location is far below average, which says a lot considering customer service has gone down hill tremendously in the last 2 years.
I understand staff shortages but there is no excuse for hiring incompetent employees. Most of my calls feel as if I am speaking with an elementary aged child with less than even a social skill, let alone a business ethic.
I hope AI can play a role in these employee shortages and more importantly the incompetence of the staff that are being employed at this eye doctors office.
How does one trust their eyes with this level of inadequacy.

The worst thing about this clinic is that they don't respect appointments or time limits. I took my 84-year-old father there, and he was seen almost four hours after his appointment time. The waiting room was packed. They schedule …

Got charged wrongfully. I verified atleast 4 times and was told my insurance covered my appointment, then at the very last second some random lady from the optical department decided she wanted to charge $75 because insurance didnt cover? Literally fraud. If her job is selling glasses, why is she applying insurance related charges? Not 100% sure, but i think her last name is Zisfahani

I visited the clinic for the first time last week, and the experience was frustrating. It took about 20 minutes to make an appointment because the receptionist kept putting me on hold to check availability multiple times. When I finally made my appointment and I arrived at my scheduled time, I filled out the paperwork and was informed by the nurse that the checkup would include dilating my pupils, which would make it unsafe for me to drive immediately afterward due to blurry vision.
I explained that I came to have my vision checked due to frequent headaches, hoping this exam would shed some light on the cause. However, I hadn’t been told about the dilation, so I hadn’t arranged for a driver to get me back to work. So I decided it’s best to reschedule even though I took half of the day off from work for this appointment. When I went to reschedule, the front desk assured me I’d be fine to drive, as only my close-up vision would be affected, so I decided to proceed with the exam.
At the end of the exam, I asked the doctor if I needed glasses, and his response shocked me: “I don’t know. Do you think you need glasses? Can you see okay? I was hoping to get clarity from him, but he only replied, “Well, I don’t think so. Your vision seems okay. If you want to find out about glasses, you’ll need an appointment with the optometrist.” I explained that this was the reason I made the appointment in the first place.
I’m a young, healthy person with no history of eye problems and didn’t need such a detailed exam, especially with dilation. The doctor spent less than two minutes with me, and the entire experience felt rushed. I do not recommend this office.
In addition, their lunch break is from 11:30-1:00pm, even though their online schedule mentions 12-1pm; which makes it very difficult for a potential client to get ahold of them during the business hours.

TLDR: This place is horrible. They do things without patient consent and it's literally malpractice. There are more negative reviews than positive ones. You've been warned!
I filed a grievance with my insurance company because they dilated my eyes after I asked them not to.
I told them that I didn't want this test done. They did it anyways, against my wishes, and it was the worst experience of my life (for context: I've had sepsis, kidney stones, a tumor cut out of my abdomen, all at the same time, inpatient for weeks, and I still think the dilation was worse.) They said it would wear off in a few hours, but my eyes remained dilated for over 8 hours. I couldn't see properly and it gave me a migraine. I suspect that they used too much of the solution.
To make matters worse, they gave me an eye exam AFTER dilating my eyes. My prescription was all wrong. It gave me a headache to wear my glasses.
Here's the cherry on top, they insisted that I could *only* come in to "troubleshoot" my glasses but only on Wednesday. Refused to let me make me an appointment. The receptionist said that this had to be handled as a walk in. I explained that this did not work for me. That is my son's minimum day and I am an hour long trolley ride away.
Beyond that, my child has special needs and he wouldn't handle waiting around for an unknown amount of time at the office with me. Or it would cost me a financial burden. Just to be helped and treated by their doctor after they wronged me on multiple
I ended up giving up on that. I contacted my provider because I wanted to know when I could make a new appointment somewhere else. They told me that I should report this incident, so I did. Especially after reading other reviews that their eyes were also dilated without the patients consent.

I paid my bill in full when I left the office. Now they are sending me another bill. No one ever mentioned I would have to make another payment. I won't be making the payment, they are scamming people.

I showed up for an appointment only to find out that this group isn’t organized enough to know which doctor is at which clinic location, so I wasn’t able to be seen! The receptionist was violating HIPAA by asking for patient information from across the room… it was just all very unorganized and unprofessional.

A private group bought this practice and it is now a nightmare! They book SO many people at once to churn. You wait for at least 45 min and see the doctor for under 10 min. Everyone who works there is unhappy, inc the doctors. It’s a MESS and a shame how they are choosing profits over patient care. It won’t last—several people in the waiting room confirmed they are leaving for good as I am.

I give one star not because of the two Specialists I saw but the management of the office is ridiculous! They screwed up so much on one visit the office manager apologized to me but communicating with them is a huge hassle because no one ever answers the main phone except a prompt and the mail box is always full. And then you can't book online after you waste time following all the instructions because that is also a joke. Last tesort is you call the Urgent 800 # on the card and they're not very bright and you have to repeat yourself and they make mistakes and it's typical customer service with an accent! The waiting room is really small and was totally packed with the optician continually spraying chemicals on eyeglasses which I was having an allergic reaction to, so I asked them to open the door to let some air in. For such a fancy expensive location they are very dysfunctional.

I waited over 2 hours for this appt only to be told I needed to reschedule as my doc was unavailable. Needless to say, I did not reschedule. Extremely poorly run professional practice. Time to move on. Think twice before going to this office!

This is the worst office I’ve ever dealt with. I’ve been trying since my March 11 appointment to get my contact prescription. I went on vacation right after my appointment, and Dr. Zvanut said he would have
samples for me to try when I got back. But there was nothing for me and the office couldn’t find my contact prescription so I could order new contacts on my own. They are so unorganized. Their follow through is awful. I called the office three times. I reached out via the website three times and finally went in to the office to talk to them face to face. Four days later, I still hadn’t gotten a response. I called again today and will have to wait for a call back. Fingers crossed. 🤞

The insurance billing policy is arcane, frustrating, confusing, inconsistent and more than inconvenient.
I have been a client for many years For the last 3 years after some discussion Acuity was able to bill VSP for an eye exam and Medicare for an ophthalmologist visit.
Now for inexplicable policy changes Acuity insists that these 2 appointments must be on 2 separate visits.
Why would anyone subject themselves to multiple appointments, with waiting times extending nearly an hour past the scheduled time??
Should I mention the limited selection of overpriced frames?
That said Dr Perry is terrific. If it wasn't for his excellent care I would never return.

This office is amazing. I took my father in law in and we were treated so well. Everyone is so kind and compassionate. The process was so easy and thoroughly explained. Couldn’t have found a better eye care facility. 10 out of 10 stars. Highly recommend.

Worthless stuffs for glass. I always had been to this institute for my glasses for last 5 years and every time I changed the glass only but not the frame. This year again on January 2nd I went to do my glasses in acuity eye group La Jolla and for last 3 months after 2 changes they could not make a glass and frame that fits my face and I can't see through them. They can only fit frames that has nose pad. I chose a frame without nose pad and they could not fix it. Because of them I lost my budget from insurance for my glass for year 2026. I am not going back to this place anymore. I must mention the glass lady/staff name is "Zoe". It is really frustrating they can't serve their loyal customers well. If you cant make a glass and frame suitable for a common shaped face, you should not run your business.
