Went to see Dr Pascol 2 weeks ago for my daughter. He is very arrogant and rude. We went there cuz she's having problems with d stabbing pain in her eye mouth head teeth. Also One of her eyes is droopy. His answer to that is what do you think I could fix it? And as far as the stabbing pain and stuff he didn't know why we were there. Just go to a pain doctor. We were referred by the ER at bascon Palmer that you needed to see an ophthalmologist neurologist. He didn't know why they sent her there. He told her three or four times that she just needs to lose weight and get exercise. He was told but she is autism and he treated her like crap. Will never recommend him to anybody. He hurt her so bad that she doesn't want to see any other doctors. I can't believe that he could treat her like that or anybody everybody else in the office was very caring and nice except for him

It is no wonder they are number one in the nation year after year after year! Dr. Donaldson and her entire staff were great to work with! Truly professional and my vision after cataracts ended up nearly 2020! That's amazing! I am 63 years old and this is the first time in my entire life. I do not need glasses or contacts to see! Thank you very much. You guys are great

I'll have enough time to write a review the next time I'm taking my grandmother to her appointment here.. Also, why aren't you giving out post-mydriatic shades to your patients?

Dr Donaldson is fantastic it’s her surgical coordinator who sucks. When I went to my last appt I was told she will call me to schedule laser surgery. I waited two weeks and then called another two times. After the third call I got a call back. I was supposed to get laser surgery April 13th but had to reschedule due to moving the next day I have called twice so far and no answer back. This is frustrating and is annoying to have to make sure you don’t miss the call. I love Dr Donaldson

We came in for a visit because Dr. Pasol came highly recommended as an Neuro-ophthalmologist and he truly lived up to it. He is nothing short of amazing—extremely thorough in his examinations and intentional with his time. He asks detailed questions and genuinely takes the time to get to know and understand his patients. For the first time in a long while, my spouse and I didn’t feel like just another patient in the system, and we never felt rushed during our visit. The staff was equally amazing—professional, welcoming, and attentive. We are very grateful for the exceptional care we received and highly recommend this practice.

The optical express is horrible I have called 3 times and they dropped me back in the Q to hold again ! Shame on your employees, not only that but they did the same thing to my mom! An 82! Year old person!!! Shame on you guys . Get your act together and respect people

Location (in Plantation) is easy to get to; parking is a little bit of a challenge to find, but there's valet available. I arrived at the Optical Express storefront to find I was greeted promptly. My visit in total was two hours and was exceedingly fruitful. To take the edge off the waiting intervals, there might be a complementary snack for you while you're there. The eye exam was very thorough and surprisingly informative! Dr. Michael Valle was courteous, easy to communicate with, explained my eye condition and answered all my questions thoroughly. Having gone in fearing I'd "flunk" my eye exam (thinking my eyesight is worse than it actually is), Dr. Valle made me quickly feel at ease going through the exam. He also made recommendations that were easy to implement, and the "why" behind them was enlightening. The visit at the Optical Express storefront was also excellent. The professionals there were helpful in explaining how to pick frames for you based on different criteria. For example, my mom wanted frameless glasses because she doesn't want the weight of a frame to bear down on her face. I, on the other hand, need glasses that suit conditions at work. You can tell they strive to make your eyeglass order "just right". Their frame selection isn't as extensive as other places, but could be just enough to help narrow down what you'd like. They also make clear to you what effect your insurance will have on the expense of your glasses. FYI: eye exams for contacts are at the Miami campus only, I'm told. Though it's a bit of a day project (making any other commitment the same day you go not recommended), the quality of service I got at Optical Express at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute was outstanding.

I had to cancel an appt & reschedule. The person at the appt desk was the rudest, most unprofessional, insulting person I’ve ever talked to at BP Plantation. I’ve never had any kind of problem with anyone there ever. I’ve been going there for several years. The person said her name was Josie but I don’t know if that is true. After the phone conversation she then sent me 5 texts with the same info. Totally obnoxious.

The only appointment available in a reasonable time was in West Palm Beach seventy miles away. my appointment was 1:05 pm so I arrived about 12:45 pm. When I arrived, I was informed my appointment was 1:40 pm and I could not check in because it was too early. I complained enough that one of the receptionists checked me in. I asked one of the receptionists in the waiting area about the appointment time. She said she would check, walked away and disappeared, never to be seen again. After the appointment I went to the checkout area to schedule a follow up appointment where I waited close to twenty minutes before a clerk spoke with me. My doctor wanted to schedule an appointment at the Plantation office which is a few miles from my house, but the clerk said she did not have access to the appointment system for that office so someone would have to call me. A week and a half later I had to call because no one bothered to call me. The woman that I spoke with said that she only saw an opening eight months away and that someone from the office would have to call me. The same BS line I was given earlier, and no one botheted to call. I only went to Bascom Palmer for a second opinion on the advice of my GP. So, I will NOT be going back since I have an Ophthamologist nearby that is treating me. The people are completely incompetent, so no matter how good the doctors claim to be, it does no good if patients can't get timely appointments for treatment because the appointment system is antiquated and the workers incompetent.

The wait was not too bad but the doctor was GREAT. I had seen him previously and was very pleased with his evaluation. I would highly recommend him.

If I could have given zero stars, I would certainly have done so! I am writing to formally express my concerns regarding the conduct of Dr. Priscilla Sotomayor whom I recently consulted. During my visit, I felt that Dr. Sotomayor demonstrated a rude and disrespectful manner, which included dismissive comments, lack of attention, and unprofessional tone. Furthermore, her approach appeared insensitive to my needs as a patient, leaving me feeling unheard, unsupported and highly disrespected. As a patient, I believe that professionalism, empathy, and respect are fundamental aspects of medical care, and unfortunately, I did NOT experience this during my interaction with Dr. Sotomayor. This behavior has caused me significant distress and has diminished my confidence in the care provided. I kindly request that this matter be reviewed and addressed appropriately. I would appreciate feedback regarding any steps taken to ensure this does not happen to other patients. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

Dr. Valle was kind, friendly, positive, patient and professional. He gave me so much confidence in the prescription he created. Natasha and her team were amazing! Also kind and thorough they helped me find the perfect pair of glasses and made sure that they looked good and fit my face. They took their time and made me feel very special. Ok looong review. I am 58, have had two retina detachments. I love Bascom Palmer in general because without them I would be blind and my wife and kids would visit me once a month in some special home. . Dr Smiddy, Dr Y. are awesome. But this is about the rest of the team in the Plantation office. Super friendly and quick. They do 7am appointments and I can expect to be out by 9 most days including the prelim stuff like dilation, phototgraphy etc. Special shout out to Yoslen Hernandez. I had some weird stuff going on with my left eye so I sent a message using uhealth. 30 min later I got a call from Yoslen, who saved me $500 by squeezing me in to see the doctor today in Plantation versus a trip to the ER in Miami. SHe even called to follow up. Yea!!!

I was very impressed with the Optical area of Bascom Palmer. They were very efficient and patient with me, because I have such poor vision. The optometrist was amazing. He explained everything, and went the extra mile to make sure the prescription for my glasses was absolutely correct. Thank You!

I’m an existing patient. I was just offered a FIRST AVAILABLE appointment… for May 19th, 2025. THAT IS SEVEN MONTHS AWAY! 😵🤯 Loooong list of doctors here that accept my insurance, and not a single one available for 7 whole months. I have a bump on my eyeball and sudden blurry vision (past 2 weeks) in that eye. Pretty sure I can’t wait for 7 months. Crazy. Like why are you listed with the insurance company as “accepting new patients” when you are literally at max capacity, and your *current* patients have to wait 7 whole months to be seen? Makes no sense.

Wait time here is ridiculous, this is my first and very last time here, closet appointment is 4 months away, so I decided to walk in, NEVER AGAIN I would rather take my chances with a messed up eye, this entire institute sucks, time …

This was my first visit with Dr. Valle and from my experience he’s a true professional! He was not rushy when i had several questions. Dr. Valle took his time to explain things to me in a clear & precise manner and that really made me comfortable. It’s hard to get good quality service now a days but I was very satisfied with today’s visit! Amazing Service!

I don't understand how this hospital is the #1 in the US. I've been going to the Plantation and Miami Hospital multiple times this year for my daughter's and my eye conditions. The waiting time is always 4 to 5 hours; there is no respect for patients. The service from the people at the front desk is the worst I ever experience in a hospital. On top of that, the surgical coordinators don't provide any support; my procedure was denied by the insurance company twice because Bascom Palmer didn't send the proper documentation (by the way, the same procedure was approved at another doctor's office). The very rude Surgical Coordination didn't provide any solution or recommendation, not even a wiliness to make it right and attempt to send the documents the insurance is asking for. She said the doctor would contact me, but one week later, no one contacted me.

This is the top hospital and first class doctors! I truly understand the wait time and lack of parking. Staff does a thorough job of moving you along in the process. Yes it takes time but you get world class service from knowledgeable doctors, tech and office personnel. My team of doctors, Dr. Yehoshua and Dr. Welick, are excellent and caring physicians who go above and beyond for their patients. Hernan Pena in the office has always been helpful. Treating patients us not like getting your oil changed, each doctor spends the appropriate and necessary time with each patient. Yes they get backed up, yes there may be long waits, know when you leave all the bases have been covered. Waiting rooms are comfortable (pack a sweater)they do get cold, complimentary coffee is available. Overall I trust the doctors and staff with the care of my eyes.

CUSTOMER BEWARE!!! I went in for a basic eye exam. I paid my co-pay like I normally do. I was never told that there was an additional fee that insurance typically does not cover. A facility fee. They charged me an additional $119.96. I called my benefits from my employer, and they explained that normally any other eye doctor would be fine, but because I went to a Bascom Palmer at a UM facility there’s a facility fee. A week later I got a additional $120 bill because they billed my insurance wrong and now they were coming after me to pay it. Now I was looking at my copay plus $240. I finally got the bill corrected so that I would not have to pay the additional 120 but they still told me I was responsible for the $119.96. They told me many people complain about this fee. Which proves to me that they’re not doing a great job explaining this to customers because they would have less customers. I won’t be going back there for any standard exams or regular check ups. Update 4/23/26 I was just billed again for the $116 they said was billed wrong. So a BASIC EYE EXAM is about to cost me $271.96 total out of pocket when I have great insurance. Look below. You’ll see my $35 copay. Then my $119.96 “facility fee”. Now I owe another $116??????? You have to be kidding me.

Bascom can be very hectic, but I’d like to recognize the workers and what they do. Especially in the Optical Express, the employees were very helpful and efficient. Laura Muniz was so kind. She took the time to explain the difference in lenses and helped me find the best glasses suited for me. Truly all of the staff was attentive. Despite the volume of people being attended to, I was still able to get my glasses on the same day. I appreciate all of the staff for their help in the whole process. Thank you 🫶🏼

Dr. Did not know how to give me a proper prescription. I needed prism lenses. Sent in a technician who shoved large glasses into my brain shunt after being warned it was there and after 15 mins. Still couldn’t get it done. They 3 drs. gave me 3 different prescriptions and the optical store said that there were a lot of errors. I was there for several hrs. And got nothing accomplished. Just awful.

Don't do a telehealth visit it's useless. I had one with no resolution. The optometrist Stephen Bratman gave me a medication but it was expensive called 3 times left several messages to find an alternative. No response waiting for 1 week . Also be aware they charge you twice for a telehealth. I don't understand why no one told me this. Paying for hospital fee and a office visit for a phone call this is insurance fraud !! I called the number below Customer experience and that was also useless. No one knows about billing. Be informed before making an appointment!!

My doctor, Joshua Pasol is amazing! He is very attentive and tries his best to help! He made sure I got the surgery I needed very quickly! The wait times here are a little long but it’s worth it. Plus they have great free hot chocolate and coffee while you wait. Everyone is extremely nice and professional here.
