I was not the typical cataract patient as I am in my mid 40s. However, I have lived with awful vision for 40 years and I had finally given up on fighting contacts daily that never fit my eye properly. I considered different options like lasik, PRK and contact lense implants, but I was told by a couple doctors I was to old...ouch! After doing my research and talking with my 68 year old father that just had very successful cataract surgery last year, I decided to speak with a cataract specialist or two to determine if it was an option. Great news, I wasn’t to old and it was a good option for me after having a very thorough examine and discussion with Dr. Chen and his staff. I determined that I was going to move forward with the surgery even though there was no insurance coverage for me, just like opting for lasik. I had my cataract surgery performed by Dr. Chun with his super high tech laser system per his recommendation for enhanced precision, faster healing and it enabled him to fix my astigmatism. I chose a multi focal lense that enabled me to see crystal clear at distance and up close. It was amazing, 20/20 vision just 6 hours after surgery. The surgery itself was a piece of cake. I didn’t feel a thing and they gave me a little sedation to make sure I was relaxed during the entire process. You go in fully clothed, lay down in a bed, you get a bunch of eye drops, IV, and before you know it, you wake up with excellent vision. After surgery you need to wear eye protection such as old non prescription glasses for a week and sleep with a shield over your eye to make sure you don’t scratch or rub it. You will need to take eye drops 3 times per day and you can’t do any physical activities during that week. I was driving less than 48 hours after surgery with absolutely no issues. Dr. Chun and his staff was great throughout the entire process and always did a great job answering my questions. The level of precision that Dr. Chun performs his job is 2nd to none.
