We visited Cohen’s Fashion Optical (Staten Island Mall) today to get a pair of glasses using the insurance benefits. We arrived 10 minutes before the appointment. Two sales/ customer assistants were comfortably seated in the corner of the store. They took little notice of us as they were in a deep discussion. I approached them. With a kind of dislike in her tone, she asked why we came. Getting to know about my appointment she showed the other corner of the store and hurried back their conversation. The dude on the other side of the store was glued to a computer screen, busy tapping on a keyboard. Without raising his head asked what he could do in a tone unsuitable for customer service. With the appointment being mentioned he gave us two sets of forms to fill in and asked for the insurance card and driver's license. Perhaps they all had a bad day and were using it on the customers! Cutting the long story short. End of the eye exam, the fun part came. We were shown a limited selection of cheap plastic frames, which are widely available for $10 - $30 range on eBay and Amazon. They were pricing them for $700+ and kept adding a bi-focal lens charge of $200 and an antiglare charge of $200/-. They wanted us to pay $400 in total for a cheap frame. We were discouraged when we asked about the other frames in the display. They could have easily upsold us two pairs of frames if they treated us better. She was showing dislike all along. Perhaps she was not used to serving colored people. She got annoyed when we wanted to think about paying $800 in total for two pairs. She gave a sarcastic grin and bluntly said bye! I could see it was all about racism. On top of that, they were aiming to milk the insurance company and deep dive into our pockets for an additional $800/-. We pay for our insurance and are entitled to select the suitable frame. Well, it's too bad that we didn't fall for it. Please avoid Cohen’s Fashion Optical (Staten Island Mall).

I love the selection here as well as friendly, thorough service. Reps are amazing at knowing which frames to suggest that will fit each person and are extremely knowledgeable in the process and materials used for frames. My most recent experience landed me gorgeous Christian Dior frames and an incredibly thin lens for my prescription. I also appreciate all the help with insurance. Can recommend!

Overall had a great experience. The staff was extremely helpful. I had a glitch with my insurance, which Dena took extra steps to sort it all out. Gina, Susan and the entire team were very professional and friendly. I will definitely be a loyal customer going forward. I highly recommend this location.
