I typically don’t write reviews, but in this case, I think it’s extremely important to write one. Out of all of the optometrists I’ve been to, Dr. Bittel has exceeded my expectations. I have not personally been treated by him, but was looking for an optometrist that could help improve the quality of life for my mom who has severe chronic dry eye. My mother who is on medi-cal, was merely getting the advice of using artificial tears when she was feeling a lot of discomfort, so much that she started to feel depressed and couldn’t even keep her eyes open for a few hours without feeling a lot of pain. As her daughter, I wanted to find an optometrist who can help improve the quality of her life and also adequately improve her symptoms, and actually if possible, fix the problem. I understood that this would probably cost a lot of money especially since I believed that her condition got progressively worse after not being properly treated. I personally researched to try to understand the condition of chronic dry, and spoke to 12 different optometrist that I felt could help her and to also understand financially, what I can expect to take a loan out on. After speaking to all of the different optometrist, I decided to go with Dr. Bittel and I could not have made a better decision. Dr. Bittel truly cares about each and everyone of his patients. He takes a very conservative approach and is very detail oriented. He also takes the time to carefully explain what he is seeing and what he believes are the best next steps in one’s treatment plan. When he doesn’t know the answer to something, he doesn’t hesitate to let us know that he will get back to us, which is really important to me: being honest. So far, we have tried many different methods, and I have personally seen my mother’s symptoms slowly get better. Given that there is a slight language barrier between my mom and Dr. Bittel, Dr. Bittel provides me updates via email to make sure that I also am at ease and comfortable with the treatment plan that we are going with and so that I can also explain it to my mom. Who does that?!? Those are qualities of a doctor that I didn’t even think I could expect of anyone. He is truly an amazing and compassionate doctor that set some apart from everyone else. If you have any eye-related needs, I don’t say this often, but he is the one to go to. Though I live in LA, I am also planning on going to him as long as he continues his practice. The drive is more than worth it.

Our 6 year old son has extreme anxiety when it come to new medical situations. He had never had an eye appointment before and was terrified. Dr. Bittel was so awesome with him; helping him to calm down and feel safe! I highly recommend Dr. Bittel!
