I was referred to Dr Belen because an optometrist said she couldn't tell if my angles were too narrow to be safe. Dr Belen did an exam and said my angles were narrow and he recommended an iridotomy. That is a laser treatment that puts a permanent hole in the iris to make sure pressure doesn't build due to narrow or closing angles. My EYE PRESSURE was NORMAL, NO GLAUCOMA. I asked him just how open or closed my angles were. He said, 'it's hard to say.' I left that day and immediately made an appointment to have a different doctor examine my eyes. My angles were Grade 3 - open, there was no need for treatment, no risk. An iridotomy would have put PERMANENT holes through the iris of my eyes , which can cause visual disturbances like glare, halos, or faint "ghost" images. Many people have reported those side effects, plus it's expensive surgery. I'm so glad I did not get that surgery.
