Dr. Humphreys is okay. It is the billing practices that I am upset over.
If I had not given them my Medicare card, the uninsured rate for the exam would have been $112. I asked.
Since I am high risk for Glaucoma and new to Medicare, I gave them my card to find out if it was covered.
They submitted a bill of $260 to Medicare.
Medicare said only $195 of that was allowable but it was part of my deductible.
So I paid $195 for an exam that would have cost $112 if I had just told them I was uninsured.
Since I am otherwise healthy, I would always have to pay almost double the amount since it would always come in under my deductible.
And we wonder why Medicare is running out of funds!
You think when you retire that you are finally going to be able to relax after half a century of going to a job every day. Instead you just end up spending your time in anger and frustration, copying documents, sitting on hold, and fighting to keep greedy people from taking everything you saved up to live on, while wondering if there is anyone who is honest in the healthcare profession anymore.
