Big shoutout to Dr. Abelson and his staff! I was on my last set contacts and I can’t thank him enough for squeezing me in on his tight schedule on a Saturday, so I could get a new prescription. Not only new ones but also better contacts than I had before. I would give everyone here a 10 star if I could. Absolutely loved the staff. Incredible friendly and amazing customer service specially his wife Souraya. If you need new frames and help what type fits your face best, she is your best bet!

They say they are open until 2pm on Saturday but they rarely are open on Saturday. They should change the office hours online so people don’t waste their time

Dr.Rick Abelson is an excellent optometrist! He gets my eyeglasses prescription just right. I always appreciate the extra time he takes to adjust my new glasses so they fit securely/properly when they arrive. Sima and Dahlia in the front office are excellent as well and they always are very helpful and informative. Also they offer some really neat glasses frames for both prescription sunglasses and normal eyeglasses! Thank you so much to the team at Gateway Village Optometry!

Absolutely stellar experience at this optometry office! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the sweet & friendly reception staff. Dr. Abelson is incredibly thorough and attentive during the eye exam, taking the time to explain everything clearly but still efficient. The entire team was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. I highly recommend this office for anyone in need of top-notch eye care!

I've been coming here for a little over 5 years and hands down best eye doc in OC. He was the only one who figured out why my vision would change drastically. I can't ever repay him for the great service him and his staff have given me. He's definitely made me see again!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dr. Abelson is by far the best optometrist my family has ever had! He's been my doctor and my kids' doctor for years! I highly recommend him to anyone seeking high quality care for their eyes.

I’d like to start by saying I do NOT enjoy or find pleasure in given bad reviews. The initial time my family & I came to this office it was a normal experience. Today, we go to pick up our glasses and there were quite a few issues… 1.) my husbands glass lens had a blemish & the frame was tainted (tainted meaning loose and bent) 2.) we had three glasses and only 2 (including my husbands) were ready after receiving a text stating all glasses were ready. When I asked the woman on the phone (SEEMA) she informed me it is because prisoners make the glasses… that was the extent of it and then I got HUNG UP ON. This establishment needs to hire individuals whom have better business etiquette. Medical, HMO ,PPO…it should not matter. Represent yourself & your business in a more etiquette manner.

Service was excellent. The doctor and nurse was patient with me. They did right prescription and found glass frame that fit perfect.

Dr. Rick is great! Personable and friendly. I have a condition call keratoconus. Dr.Rick was quite knowledgable about it and was able to get me fitted in new lenses without any hassles! I would highly recommend this optometrist!

Such a great optometrist! The doctor was funny and efficient and the front desk lady was super helpful with everything! Glasses and contacts came in exactly when they said they would and the glasses were adjusted until they fit perfectly. I've had to wear glasses since second grade so about 12 years now and got the best service here than any other place I've gone to for eye exams and new glasses or contacts.

This was the best experience I have had at any Dr's. Office! I wish every office was run like Dr. Abelson's is! The staff was so friendly, professional, and welcoming. Dr. Abelson fixed my prescription from another office and I can finally see now! If you'd like to finally have a positive experience at the Dr's. office set up an appointment with Dr. Abelson. ☺️

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Saved My Eyes (and My Sanity!) – Gateway Village Optometry, San Clemente If I could give more than five stars, I would — because Gateway Village Optometry literally rescued me right before the holidays. Here’s the situation: my 6-year-old son accidentally destroyed my last pair of Ray-Ban prescription glasses (kids + glasses = dangerous combo 😅). I was left practically blind, right before Christmas, which is about the worst timing possible. I honestly thought I was doomed to squint through the holidays. Enter Gateway Village Optometry in San Clemente — absolute lifesavers. From the moment I walked in, the experience was smooth, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Dr. Rick is on another level — calm, knowledgeable, and clearly someone who knows exactly what he’s doing. He took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure the prescription was spot-on. You can tell he truly cares about his patients, not just rushing people through appointments. And I have to give huge credit to Sima and Dalia — these two are absolute gems. Their customer service was top-notch, friendly, patient, and incredibly helpful from start to finish. They treated my situation like it actually mattered (which sadly isn’t always the case elsewhere). Now here’s the part that still blows my mind: They managed to get me custom prescription lenses with custom tinting done in just FOUR DAYS — during the Christmas season. I honestly didn’t think that was even possible. Not only did they make it happen, but the quality is perfect. Crystal clear, beautiful tint, and fits my Ray-Ban frames flawlessly. I walked out seeing clearly again, stress-free, and honestly just super grateful. This is the kind of place you stick with. I’ll absolutely be relying on Gateway Village Optometry for all my future frames and eye care, no question about it. Horrible prescriptions. Horrible service. Waited a week after original day glasses were to be ready and when they were I couldn't see through them any better than my old ones even though my eyes have changed....he rushed through my exam as if he didn't care. the receptionist is somewhere else and I had to keep calling to find when my glasses would be finished and it was like the first time she ever heard of me. Been waiting a week now for call back on replacement magnetic clip ons....they won't call....sure of it

Fantastic Optometrist! Dr. Abelson took his time with me, explained everything to me so that I could understand, and his fees are so good! Clean office and tons of eye glass choices to choose from.

Dr.A is fabulous as well as all the office staff. My first visit and I can honestly say it's the first time I have been able to see so clearly in years. BEYOND PLEASED! This is my third pair of glasses from Gateway Village and I couldn't be happier! Fast, friendly and professional...what more can you ask for? Eye exam on Monday and Dr. Ableson was able to adjust my Rx and improve my vision by at least one line. Eyeglasses were ordered and were available for pick up on Tuesday. Again, what more can you ask for? Do yourself a favor...get great service at a great price and support a local business in the bargain. Don't just blindly choose an optometrist...give them a try and see what you've been missing!
