Dr. Ian Chan is a great professional! After I met him twice with my wife, we both feel he is a best doctor ever since we have, even though the altitudes of receptionists is not satisfied for us.

the young Cantonese lady who has no concept of how to treat staff and patients with respect and professionally. But that doesn't surprise me, that's how Cantonese typically are, no manners. Only money in their eyes.

I have irreversible eye damage. When I first came here a few years back, I was just starting to get some eye floaters in my vision that won't go away. I was told that there was nothing wrong and didn't need to have any procedures done. 6 months later on my second visit I was told the same, I was having more eye floaters in my visions at this point but was told that my eye did not need any treatment done at the moment. A month later, I woke up one day with a black spot in the center of my vision. I decided it was time to see a different ophthalmologist. From the new ophthalmologist, I found out that I have retinal detachment and that I needed to be lasered right away. I was told by my new ophthalmologist that the tears in the retina needed to be lasered off months ago and that I had waited too long. I now live with a black dot in the center of my vision, this will always be a reminder to my mistake of only trusting one doctor's diagnostics. I hope anyone else reading this to learn from my experience and perhaps find a second doctor to get a different diagnostics. I now see 2 different doctors at a 3 month interval ever since this incident.

Confirm the consultation fee before scheduling an appointment and make sure the service is necessary. I have personal experience with this. The doctor said I had a hole in my retina and that if I didn't have it repaired, there was a risk of retinal detachment. He recommended laser repair, which I did. After the repair, not only did my vision worsen, but I also developed floaters. I had no floaters before the surgery. Furthermore, the consultation fee was extremely unreasonable; they charged me $1400 for less than ten minutes. My insurance covered a small portion, leaving me with a co-payment of $930. I hope my fellow countrymen will listen to the advice of different doctors. Some doctors have very poor ethics; they are only interested in making money and not in treating patients!

Make sure you check with your insurance company that this doctor is an in-network physician prior to making your appointment. Their website said "We accept United Healthcare - all plans", this is NOT true! Be aware! I asked the doctor's secretary at the time of making my first appointment if they accept my United Healthcare Empire Plan and the answer was YES and she also told me that I am responsible only for the co-pay of $20 per visit. Based on this information she provided, I went for the first initial evaluation with Dr. Chan. I waited for 3 hours (even I have an appointment) before I saw the doctor and spent less than 15 minutes inside. I paid $20 for that visit. After few weeks, I received a bill from this doctor for $257. I called my insurance company and was told that this doctor is NOT in-network and I am responsible for this amount! Obviously, the doctor's office gave me wrong information in the beginning. If they gave me the correct information that they are out of network, then I'll definitely go somewhere else and this $257 would not even happen. I offer the doctor's office that I am willing to pay half of the amount because this happened because they gave me wrong information at the beginning but they adamantly refused. This leaves me no choice but to go to small claims court for settlement. Be very careful, make sure you check with your insurance carrier before you go to this doctor.

I was referred to this office for black spots visible in my fundus. Upon examination, Dr. Ian Chan prescribe me a medicine that wasn’t fully covered by Medicaid(80% would only be covered), the rest was out of pocket(around $400 per dose usage). However after 4 visits and paying $1600 for the medicine within a year timespan, I decide to go to another doctor when results weren’t desirable and getting worse. was given the name, he told me that the medicine Dr. Ian Chan prescribed to me isn’t even covered by Medicaid. After hearing that, I realized that Dr. Ian Chan had scammed me. Don’t come to visit this doctor and take his words with a grain of salt. This is my experience. Beware of this Dr. Ian Chan, “unscrupulous doctor” I was referred to this clinic to see Dr. Ian Chan because I had black spots under my eyes. Dr. Ian Chan told me that my Medicaid only covered 80% of the medication, and I had to pay the remaining 20% myself (approximately $400 per dose). Over the course of a year, I went to four clinics and paid $1,600. The condition didn't improve; the dark spots even increased. I decided to see another doctor when the results were unsatisfactory and my condition worsened. When the new doctor saw the medication, he told me that Medicaid didn't cover it. Hearing this, I realized I had been scammed by Dr. Ian Chan… and my vision had become blurry; the pain lingered for a full year. Don't see Dr. Ian Chan. He's a fraud. This is my experience; he's an unscrupulous doctor.

Please stay away for this doctor and clinic!!! I didn’t visit personally but my mom did. She was deceived thousands of dollar for a surgery that was not urgently needed and in a few days she could’ve gotten it covered with medical coverage but this facility wanted cash, wanted money and made her do the surgery ASAP! This is the worst doctor and practice ever!! They are super money hungry! Careless about the patients well being. After my mom got insurance coverages, they lied and told her that the insurance wouldn’t cover her injection and refused to bill the insurance. After a long battle of back and forth they told my mom that they wouldn’t see her anymore. Hello?!?!! Doctors are suppose to provide aftercare for surgical procedures and they REFUSED!!! Because they would get LESS money than what my mom would’ve paid out of pocket. We confirmed that he is an in network providers but he himself and the practice just decided to charge the patient and tell them the insurance won’t be cover. It’s really disgusting that they’re getting money from the immigrants population just because they don’t speak the language and didnt know better. Licenses should be revoked from this place Since my mom’s eyesight has gotten much much much worse after them!!! Honestly if my mom’s eye sight healed after the procedure and injections, I would’ve been okay with all of this, but no, it has gotten worse, there are still shadows in her eyes that caused my bloods stick inside the eyes!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID THIS PRACTICE FOR YOURSELF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES!!!!!

The doctor is very knowledgeable and takes time to explain the problem to the patient and tells you what kind of procedure is best for the patient.

This is regarding their receptionists. They have absolutely horrific attitude toward their patients. I felt disrespected and judged for asking the simplest questions like how long of a wait or directions to the restroom.

I had retinal surgery at Dr. Chen's clinic in 2025. Before the surgery, Dr. Chen's attitude was very good, but after the surgery, his attitude changed drastically. He became impatient if I asked him a few more questions. The worst part is that there was no difference between before and after the surgery. I don't understand why so many people still go to him. This doctor has no medical ethics. Look at the comments section, most of them are bad reviews with only one star. Please check carefully before making a decision.

The office manager, assuming she is Dr Chan's wife, is running a shady business. She demands patients to pay out of pocket without going through the insurance company. Make sure you communicate with your insurance company otherwise they will rip you off. Avoid this shady clinic.

This morning, my ophthalmologist, Hsu Chu-yun, referred me to Chen Ching-yang's clinic. The vision tester there was very rude. When she asked me questions and I answered them carefully, she became impatient and said, "I need to finish quickly; I have many other patients to test." Then she pressed a lens covering one eye onto my contact lens. I told her not to be so rude, as I have a heart condition and can't tolerate her rough treatment. During the argument, the doctor came out and, without asking why, defended his rude employee. In my nearly 30 years in New York, this is the first time I've encountered such a rude and aggressive clinic staff and doctor. This clinic is untrustworthy, utterly disrespectful, and terrifying. 😱 The vision tester in this clinic is extremely rude. When she asked the patient a question, and the patient answered seriously, she lost her patience and told the patient that she needed to finish as soon as possible because many other patients needed her to do so. Then she rudely hit the shield covering one eye on the patient's glasses lens. Then the patient told her: "I have a heart condition, please don't be so brutal to me." After the doctor came out, he protected the employee without asking why. There was no right or wrong at all. In nearly 30 years in New York, this is the first time I have encountered such a clinic and doctor. They are not trustworthy. This clinic has no respect for elderly patients. Patients feel terrible. 😱

Poor practice and money driven! I had GHI and the doctor told me that he could collect little money from GHI. He told me to go home and live with the vision problem that I had. Disgusted!

This office seriously needs to improve its scheduling system and time management. Be prepared to wait at least 2 hour after your appointment time to see the Dr. Most patients are elderly and they do not deserve to be forced to wait this long to see the doctor. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

I saw a lot of comments about the medical receptionists. I received a call before the consultation to get to know my situation. I think that was Dr.Chan himself. Dr.Chan is one of best doctors in the field and I trust him.

The vision tester at this clinic was incredibly rude. When the patient answered her questions earnestly, she lost patience, telling her she needed to finish quickly as she had many other patients to treat. Then, she rudely slammed a blindfold over the patient's glasses. When the doctor came out, he sided with the employee without asking any questions, showing absolutely no sense of right or wrong. In my nearly thirty years in New York, this is the first time I've encountered such a clinic and doctor; they are completely untrustworthy. This clinic shows absolutely no respect for elderly patients; it's terrifying! 😱
