Dr Friedberg diagnosed and treated two very rare eye conditions for me. I was seen immediately and treated professionally. I was referred by a retinal specialist who told me “as long as he is in practice I would see him above anyone else”. I am grateful for Dr Jay Friedberg without him I would’ve lost my site and ended up with an unsightly residual eyelid condition.

First, plan to be there for three hours for an eye exam. This is normal, as it was the case twice in two years. After my eye exam, I received a bill for $175. I understood from the last time I was there that this doctor didn’t take vision insurance, but instead went through medical insurance since he was an MD. Although it later dawned on me that no one had asked if my health insurance had changed (and it did), I would wait to hear from them. So when I received the bill, I called the office to request an itemized bill/form that I could submit to my vision insurance for reimbursement. To my surprise, the billing person not only refused to send me the information, but in a rude and condescending tone, proceeded to tell me how I was told when I made the appointment that this is how they operated. When I made the appointment, they said no such thing. While I tried to explain that I have vision insurance that covered eye exams, she interrupted and spoke over me to tell me how he is an MD and that I made the appointment because I had dry eyes. What!? No, I had asked the doctor about my dry eyes after he finished the eye exam. I said I didn’t even get the xiidra prescription filled! (because the doctor told me it would likely cost $400-500 dollars). I tried to explain that I made the appointment because I was struggling to read out of my current glasses and needed a new prescription… but she wouldn’t let me, again rudely interrupting me. So, again, I said just send me the itemized bill so I could submit it to my vision insurance company. She vehemently refused, saying that I knew they used medical health insurance. Still, she would not let me get a word in. In absolute frustration, I said I’m NOT paying this bill, and hung up on her. Well, after throwing the bill away for several months and later receiving threats of a collection agency, I reluctantly paid the bill.
But wait, it gets better. I was having trouble reading with the new glasses, and thought maybe progressives just weren’t for me. After trying to adjust for a few weeks (per the recommendation at Visionworks), they re-did the glasses for me, this time in bifocals as per my request. Well, after trying again with a short adjustment period, I still can’t read with them. I have reverted back to my old glasses, which are not great, but definitely better than the new ones. The whole experience was a waste of precious time and money. In conclusion, I do *NOT* recommend Dr. Jay Friedberg/Oxford Valley Eye Associates.
