As a former employee, how do I write this without throwing anybody under the bus or sounding prejudiced...? Actually, I don t care. I'll tell it like it is; reviews are not about embellishing or promoting bad service.
This optometry is fairly well-stocked with known, famous brands (like Gucci, Versace, Bulgari, Chrome Hearts, etc.) and some lesser-known but higher profile brands like Gold and Wood (tip: be EXTREMELY careful with them; despite their high prices that should typically infer quality, the full wood frames breaks incredibly easy. Get ones that are rimless or made out of horn instead if you do choose one, or expect a 3-week handling time since most labs are scared of doing them.
On the customer's end, look for Elsa for great English and Spanish service with customers (tip: She often over-occupies herself, so expect to make several calls or face long wait times; I won t trust leaving a message since she usually gets a lot and often loses them.), and Tiffany for Mandarin service; Gary will even do in a jiffy as long as you re specific. Dr. Hong is a great doctor that is very precise and takes good care of her patients, and very skilled and competent in what she does. Dr. Wu is OK too. I feel bad for both excellent doctors that have to wind up in a dump like this.
TIPS:
* CAUTION: STAY AWAY FROM THE BATHROOM! It leaks sewage gases and is EXTREMELY hazardous (OSHA has already been notified), but the landlord doesn't care, nor does the manager want to take any action except open the doors to air it out (and often only does when it gets REALLY bad).
* Saturday and some Fridays are often FILLED 2-3 days in advance; don't expect a walk-in exam as they often have to either turn away people or have them wait for hours.
* In a typical doctor's office, files are filed away and usually off the shelves for 72 hours max. Not here. Due to dismal organizing, expect a spectacle of 3 people trying to locate your file in 1 of 20 areas files are kept, sometimes for over 6 months; things get EVEN MORE FUN when Elsa is not in the office. She has her own method of sorting files unknown to other people in the office and prohibits people touching it.
* Elsa prefers not to speak Spanish and proclaimed on multiple occasions how any foreign language sounds (especially Chinese) sounds horrible, yet works in a culturally diverse area. Racist much?
* Don't expect quick service. Elsa wants things done with the precision of a Swiss watch; even insignificant aspects, and automatically thinks of all her employees as incompetent even after minor slip-ups that only necessitate practice and proper training, and insists on doing 80% of office tasks by herself and often procrastinates or runs out of time. In fact, expect it to be a mess counting 2-3 months from Apr 29, 2013, when I resigned. I m not saying I m perfect, but most of the tasks were delegated to me and so far she hasn't trusted anybody else to my tasks before I left, so productivity and turnaround time should be interesting.
Although Elsa is the most competent person there and goes above and beyond for CUSTOMERS, she s a wolf in sheep's clothing. Her status as Office Manager was only granted due to favoritism from sales and loyal customer following, NOT from leadership abilities; a 5 year-old can herd cats better. She is beyond-words horrible to employees and sometimes even to family, extremely micromanaging and egotistical, and again, almost purposely overextends herself since teamwork is a lost language to her and everybody is automatically incompetent unless EXTENSIVELY proven otherwise...
...To put it in an restaurant's perspective, it's like being a waiter to only usher and provide glasses of water, and won't be approved to take orders for 2 months, then another 2 months of being heavily scrutinized until Elsa determines that you're competent enough to carry out plates. But if either you or even the kitchen has ONE tiny error, you can only usher patrons, nothing more.
