I had an 11:45 appointment to see him at the Nottingham office and was told to get there 10 minutes early to check in. I arrived at 11.15. After check in, I sat for over an hour in the waiting room. When my wife asked how lunch longer the wait would be and how much time to allow for the appointment, the receptionist responded, “we are waiting for the technician” and once he checks in to allow another hour. I had traveled an hour and a half for the consultation and had another hour and a half return drive ahead of me. I did not have a whole day to give up for this consultation. I understand doctors sometimes run late with patients, but waiting indefinitely for a technician to test my eyes, record my problem and dilate my pupils is ridiculous and inconsiderate. No one bothered to explain there would be a problem seeing me on time or apologize for the delay. In fact, no one seemed to care. Based on this experience, I have to conclude the office is in urgent need of an office manager who puts patient care as a priority. There is a sign posted on the wall of the waiting room that declares the Johns Hopkins Opthamology Clinic was voted number 1 in the country. That is a nice accolade, but if a patient can’t see your doctor because there is no technician available, you don’t deserve that rating.
