I can't in good conscience recommend this place, especially if you're low income or don't want to have to pay 5x what the cost you were told you'd be paying is.
The doctors are really nice and professional and do a great job. The staff at the front seem to be nice, but openly lie to you about the cost of elective procedures (paid 3x what the nice lady at the front assured me I would pay) and drop hidden fees that they didn't mention after you've already been seen by the doctor. Super dishonest, but with a smile. Would recommend going elsewhere.

Dr Phil and his staff do a wonderful job of creating a fun and welcoming environment. My first appointment with him was to fix a misdiagnosis given by another optometrist. Since then he's helped solve my dry eye issues and has continuously monitored an underlying condition that would otherwise cause me a lot of stress. I continue to recommend this practice to friends because every person I've sent in has had a wonderful experience.

📣 I have been going to Dr. Tawil for more than 15 years. 15 YEARS. 📣
It takes a lot for me to pen a review here on yelp. But when I'm lucky enough to find someone really special, I stick with them. Dr. Tawil, a real standout in eye care, is one of those special people.
As I said earlier, I have been walking through the doors of Dr. Tawil's for over 15 years - the place where I have felt seen (literally and metaphorically) in ways that no other optometrist has managed. My journey began at his former location on Castro, my eyes red and experiencing extreme discomfort, tormented by the unwelcome sensation of my contact lenses setting my world ablaze.
Before Dr. Tawil, I had visits to 2 other optometrists that year - one conveniently labeled me an unsuitable candidate for contact lenses due to my aversion to the popular-at-the-time Acuvue ones, while another mis-diagnosed me with glaucoma. Disoriented, confused and disheartened, I sought solace in Dr. Tawil's expertise.
From our very first encounter, I felt a sense of respite. Sensing my concern with the recent history of past optometrist visits, Dr. Tawil asked to start afresh - with a complete re-examination - initiating a huge sigh of relief from me. And so began our journey, a testament to his unwavering dedication and his refusal to let my fussy eyes compromise with even the slightest discomfort.
We embarked on a seemingly endless trial of contact lenses, over eight different types, spanning several months, until we discovered a pair that my eyes accepted (the "old school lenses" Dr. Tawil endearingly coined). Every step of the way he was patient and methodical.
But the tale of Dr. Tawil's exceptional care doesn't end there. When our beloved "old school" lenses were headed towards discontinuation, his team left no stone unturned to secure the last few boxes for me - a gesture that showcases the above-and-beyond ethos his team and him upholds.
The following year, faced with the discontinuation of my beloved "old school" lenses, I braced myself for another round of lens trials. But fear was soon replaced with admiration, as Dr. Tawil's expertise in personalized eye care shone even more brilliantly. He intuitively grasped my unique needs and, in just our first attempt, found the perfect replacement lenses. His swift and effective response, speaking volumes about his deep understanding of my eyes, underscored the top-notch personalized service he provides.
And throughout these 15+ years, Dr. Tawil always brought light and laughter into the room, proving to be not just an exceptional optometrist but also a splendid conversationalist and the embodiment of impeccable bedside manners.
Visiting an optometrist and coming out with some contact lenses / glasses is usual. But walking out with a smile gracing your face, and the comfort of knowing you're in the best hands? Now, that's what I call exceptional. Try Dr. Tawil. You'll see 👀 what I mean.
