I was sent to Dr. Taupeka after losing vision in one eye over a very short period of time. He was very thorough with testing and explained everything as he was doing it so that I knew what was happening and why. At the end of the appointment, I had to be sent to the hospital but he had everything arranged so they were expecting me. He ensured I got the appropriate care and treatment to help. He explained everything very well. He has an excellent bedside manner. He's an amazing doctor and I highly recommend him!

I was referred to Dr. Taupeka by Opticlub in Pensacola. The optometrist saw that my nerves were elevated and that I should get a second opinion on a diagnosis of papilledema. He said I fit the criteria for this condition and would like to have it confirmed. An appointment was setup with Dr. Taupeka's office in April. The first visit I went to, I didn't realize that I had food poisoning and ended up being sick to my stomach after completing tests. The doctor and staff treated me as though I had the plague. My mom went to the appointment with me and they asked her in a very rude way what is wrong with me. When I returned to the exam room, the doctor didn't even review anything before saying I had to come back for testing. I had already completed everything with the exception of my eyes being dilated. I had to make a follow up appointment for that. For the second appointment, I had my eyes dilated and he confirmed that I have papilledema. He also had me complete an MRI to make sure I don't have any potential issues with my brain such as cancer. When he mentioned this word, I started crying. The nurse looked at me and said "what's wrong with you?" in a very insensitive way. When the word cancer is a possibility, I would be shocked if a individual receiving that information doesn't become upset. I had the MRI completed and went back to him for the results. He said it looked normal and then precedes to say "wait, you have white spots on your brain". Shouldn't my file have been reviewed prior to our appointment? It seemed it was the first time he was looking at it. He also made time to brag about his boat. He referred me to a neurologist to review my results further. I made a follow up appointment with him 5 months out. Now we're in September and my appointment was on the 1st. I get a text message the day before saying my appointment is September 7. I was very upset because no one had called me to tell me my appointment changed. I called them to find out what happened. The answering service said there weren't any notes of anyone attempting to contact me to reschedule. At this point, I'm furious. They said they would leave a note for the nurse to call me. I asked for a call back around 2 since I had to take my daughter to the doctor that day and I wanted to make sure I was available for their call. They called at 12:45 and I missed their call. I called them back and spoke with Stacy. She was extremely rude and accusatory. I told her that their records don't show anyone called me and she asked about my voice-mail box. I didnt have any from them. I got heated on the phone with her. Even though she said she wanted to help, her voice and demeanor said otherwise. I had to rearrange my entire schedule for their mishap. This included rescheduling my neurologist appointment to go over my results for the white spots. I'm without answers until October. I went to my rescheduled appointment, and it still was not a plesant experience. His nurse didn't speak at all. He was very smug the entire time. I did express that this entire experience with them has been a nightmare and he brushed it off. My feelings about this were not validated a single time. I feel like a number, not a patient. The overall experiences that I've had with this entire office have been so discouraging and disheartening. I will never recommend this office to anyone for eyecare. They are rude, arrogant, and have terrible bedside manner. The best thing to come out of this is the referral to Dr. Kasmia.
