I will never go here again. I have never been treated so poorly. Dr. Shields was great when there is not an issue if you bring up an issue he is the most inappropriate person to deal with. Very disappointing and can’t believe the way I was spoken to!

I was first impressed with the service and friendliness of staff and really liked Dr Shields my friend and I were both seen same day in 2019. We were told up front they didn't accept our insurance or our Medicare plan since we were both retired. We were able to pay for our exams and glasses that we purchased in the office. We paid cash that day in full for both. Glasses were great and the next year we returned same service same insurance plan, New glasses times two happy again with everything. In a few months my insurance informed me that they paid for 90% of our visit and glasses times two. After I inquired about this they told me they had also paid the bill in 2019 the same. The checks were cashed in all occasions. We were never refunded the money we paid even after multiple calls emails and in person visits to there office. I was only allowed to speak to the Billing office manager once and she was not helpful and very rudd. Dr Shiekds said he would have his wife call, She never did. I would advise NO One to ever go there. I don't know what is going on but it's not good they owe us our money and she knows it.

Amazing. Always nice and friendly when we go in! Greeted with a smile every time. They treat us as if they’ve known us our whole lives. My daughter loves them. We drive an hour just to come here because the experience is better than anywhere else I’ve went. I love the family environment. They’re wonderful! If I could rate them a 10 I would.

I really enjoyed my first visit as a new patient. Everyone at the office was very nice. Dr. Shields is great and up front! It was refreshing to NOT have a pushy Dr trying to make money. He was very open with my eye care options. Highly recommend!

Loves Dr. Shields- took the time to help and diagnose me. I was feeling miserable with and eye infection and he made me laugh while in tears from the pain. Great experience- highly recommend

Outstanding care!!! Dr.Shields is hands down the best eye doc around for contacts...glasses...etc. Their staff are top notch! Carson, himself returned my call to place an order....even when office was about to close... he didn't mind to answer extensive questions. I was not able to catch other staff names (that took previous calls) but they delivered messages and made sure patients felt not only welcomed with their calls / concerns but followed up with. I can't think of any reason why anyone wouldn't choose this practice for your needs. Thank you, Dr. Sheilds & Staff!!!! See you soon.

Everyone was so friendly and took their time. I felt so well taken care of and listened to and everything was very timely. I didn't wait long at all which is rare at any type of medical appt. I really appreciate that!! Most of all, I loved the doctor. So personable and knowledgeable. Felt like he genuinely cared. I'll be moving the entire family over for all our future vision appts/needs

I was having problems with my vision Dr shields wrote the prescriptions I came back to pickup my glasses, and things were blurry. The man that helps you with find the frames of your choice told me that I shouldn't have lied on my eye exam! And he didn't stop there he went as far as using the word distortion! Who pays out of pocket 541.00 for glass after insurance pay, to lie on an eye exam?! Unbelievable!! I have never had anyone who suppose to be in a professional setting be so condescending, and manipulative. My family and I have used them for about 8 years now, needless to say I will never be going back there. He will never have the opportunity to speak to me like that ever again!

We had an 8:30 eye appt and a man had a 9am appt but came at 8:40 AFTER we were checked in and asked if he could be seen now so he’s not late to work and front desk said yes. This is very rude and upsetting because now I am late to work due to some man not booking an earlier appt like we did and was still seen before us. I have never had this happen before at this office. It’s took exactly an hour to be seen after check in because they let someone with a later appt time basically take our time slot. If I wanted to be seen at 9:30 instead of 8:30 I would’ve scheduled a later appt. Very unprofessional and upsetting as well as causing repercussions for me at my job.

Dr. Shields is very knowledgeable and great to deal with. I have always been seen in a timely manor and have always been treated fair. The staff is always polite and willing to help with any problems that I have had(self inflicted or other). I highly recommend Shields & Shields, for eye care needs. Dr. Shields has always treated me, in a professional manor.

I've used Dr. Shields for years, and years. Started with him when they were downtown Knoxville. He has never been rude with me or my family. Always nice, jovial, and kidding around. I drive from South Knoxville to see him. I don't have another doctor I would drive that far for.

Never had a problem with my vision since I had started going to these professionals. I moved to Tennessee back in 2000 and have been going to Shields and Shields ever since. They have state of the art equipment and a very friendly staff. Your vision is priority one.

I have had great care from the staff as well as the doctor himself. They have made sure that any issues I have had are addressed and resolved. They make sure I walk out being able to see better than when I walked in.

I’ve been coming here for 40 years starting with Dr Bill Shields at the downtown location and still coming to see Dr Charles on Kingston Pike. I’ve had great experiences with both doctors and both offices. My family and I will keep coming back!

The entire team was incredibly professional, friendly, and welcoming from the moment I walked in. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all my questions, and made the whole process feel comfortable and stress-free. You can tell they truly care about their patients and take pride in providing excellent care. Dr Shields has a great bedside manner! He is friendly and thorough. He and his staff explained what they were doing when they were doing it. Dr. Shields even sat with my son for 45 minutes to help him with putting in contacts for the first time.

I have had my glasses made here for years. I have some serious eye problems so I have to go to an Opthamologist to prescribe my glasses but I always get 2 pairs of glasses and the lenses are very expensive. I came in on Monday,September 21, 2020 to leave my glasses prescription and pick my frames and was told the gentleman who did that was talking with a provider. I waited and waited and I could hear he was off the phone but he never came to get me. Then I saw one of the doctors bring a patient in to him and they politely pushed that person in front of me and still left me sitting there. I went up to the desk and requested my prescription back and when I got it I made a point to say loudly as I went out the door, "This is no way to do business." You would think doctors especially would want to be aware of courtesy and good treatment of customers. Oh well! Just rack it up to one peon customer lost. Good riddance I guess. I am a retired bank vice president and will influence all I can to shy away from this place.

Dr Shield is one of the best eye doctors I have ever been to. Very knowledgeable in his field. He kept his appointment time and the ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. I have been to many different doctors all over the U.S. which has been a necessity in my field of work and he is one of the best. If you think you know more than the eye doctors about your eyes you should go elsewhere.

Very disappointing experience. The first pair of prescription glasses was made incorrectly, so I had to return them. The second pair still wasn’t fixed, everything remains blurry and I can actually see better without wearing the glasses. The staff seemed rushed and didn’t give proper attention to the issue. For something as important as eye care, this level of service is unacceptable. Unfortunately, I ended up wasting $720 on glasses I cannot use.

I have been going to Shields and Shields for a long time. I have always had a good experience. Dr. Shields is always pleasant to me and has a good sense of humor. The lady who helped me pick out glasses was very helpful. I have no plans of going anywhere else.

Everyone was very friendly. The testing was very streamlined and quickly done. Dr Shields was entertaining during the appointment. He kept me distracted so the appointment went by quickly. I appreciate everyone from the nice greeting when I arrived to the ordering of my contacts. They were all great!

Wow! I had been going to these chain shops to get my vision checked and new glasses. My vision had become a little off, I was experiencing double vision and some depth perception issues. Remembering my childhood optometrist, I thought it would be worth seeing what was happening. Seeing an actual doctor, face to face, rather than talking to a screen was a welcomed change. I’ve been uninsured my entire adult life, and had been afraid I couldn’t afford a real doctor looking at my eyes. A family owned optometrist is so rare nowadays, and I’m so grateful that we have one in our town. Anyways, turns out these chain vision shops had ramped up my prescription for contacts to a -2.5. That’s not only expediting my eyes deterioration, But also makes my eyes work really hard to see, so at the end of the day I’m exhausted and had to get these contacts out. After meeting with Dr. shields, and his thorough examination, we discovered I rightfully need a -1.5… Woe and wow, I can see so much more crisp and I got great lenses that feel fantastic!!! The price was no more than those chain garbage companies, 10 out of 10 would recommend thank you so much Doc for all your help!

My 3 children and I have gone to Dr. Shields for about 20 years. The staff is professional, friendly, and most importantly extremely knowledgeable on all eye issues. They've taught all 3 boys how to use and care for contacts. Over the years, we've had emergency visits, "is my contact still in my eye" visits, "please tighten my glasses" visits, "omg I'm leaving town and I'm out of contacts" visits, occasional medical issues, and of course lots of normal checkups. I've always walked out knowing that I just got the best care, and we were always treated with respect.

Dr Shields’s is the best. He puts up with my desire to have the better than perfect vision with several trials of contacts until I finally found the right ones. I have been worked in for a corneal abrasion which was very scary and so important to get immediate care to mend it.
