I currently have no insurance so thought I'd give Walmart a try. I had an outstanding experience. Prices are reasonable and upfront, about $100 for the exam. The doctor is very thorough and the staff are knowledgeable. The doctor took his time and double checked everything. The optical staff wasn't pushy at all. The first thing they did was see if I qualified for any discounts, going down a list of various organizations until they found one. Then I was shown the $9 frames, and given a couple of suggestions. They pointed to more expensive ones but said I should look at the $9 ones first. I chose one that was the style I like and it felt sturdy. I need high index lenses and like anti-glare coating, so I expected the total cost to be expensive but hoped it would be lower than other eyewear stores. My cost ended up around $250, plus the $100 for the exam. I paid $500 five years ago at a chain eyewear place. I know it takes a while to get used to new glasses so I waited to do a review. After two months, the prescription has been accurate, and the $9 frames are have been durable and easy to maintain.
