Oh man, I really hate to be negative, but I've never experienced anything like this. I feel others need to be warned about Doctor Reingold.
They have a really nice office and a great front office staff. After my exam, the doctor told me I need cataract surgery. This was news to me, as I had no symptoms. He then ushered me into the sales office, where a very nice lady told me that 1. my insurance (Medicare) would cover the operation, but 2. if I really wanted the best options, I needed to pay an additional $4,500 on top of that for all the extras.
I hesitated because this was all new info. Then the doc came back in and urged me to schedule it ASAP because I really needed the operation.
I said no thanks. I asked to get a copy of my exam. They refused --- which is not legal. Your medical records belong to you.
So I went to another eye doc the following week, but did not mention anything about my previous exam. After a thorough exam, they recommended a followup in 6 months. "What about cataracts?" I asked. The doc looked surprised and said: "You don't have cataracts."
After the first of the year, my insurance changed, so I went to a different eye doc to get treatment for dry eyes. After their exam, including photos, they gave me drops. "What about cataracts?" I asked. This doc also looked surprised and said: "You don't have cataracts." At that point, I told him another doctor told me I needed immediate cataract surgery. This doctor shook his head and said there was no sign of cataracts.
So there you have it. Doctor Reingold recommended completely unnecessary surgery, as confirmed by two other ophthalmologists. And he wanted to gouge me for money above and beyond what Medicare says.
Perhaps I am naive, but I always liked to think doctors had the best interest of their patients at heart. Doctor Reingold appears to be a greedy man with shaky ethics. I have reported him to the California Medical Board and related my experience to them.
I urge extreme caution when visiting this doctor. I see now why he has such a nice office and so many more employees than other doctors -- fee gouging from unsuspecting patients.

Dr. Reingold and his staff provided me with the worst medical care I’ve had maybe ever. He was aggressively pushing my face around during my exam, rushed me through my exam despite the fact that I clearly needed a break from the painful bright light, and then the best part is - when he told me he couldn’t diagnose my issue, he said “well, if you don’t have a medical complaint then your insurance won’t cover this visit, just thought you should know.” I said “isn’t the issue I came in here seeking help for a medical complaint?” And I was told that because he couldn’t think of a diagnosis then it didn’t count. His staff is rude and unorganized. My pupils were dilated and I was given no sunglasses to protect my eyes from the light after I left crying.
DO NOT GO HERE.

Dr Reingold was incredible when I scratched my eye. I was rushed in and he accommodated me ( even when he had a packed schedule) and immediately helped relieve the pain. I was seeing again in four days. I cannot say enough about this doctor. He was incredible. Highly recommend .
