David G. Godfrey, MD- Biography

Dr. David Godfrey, a native Texan, joined the Glaucoma Associates of Texas in 1999. After graduating with honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from the University of Texas in Galveston, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. During his ophthalmology training, he was appointed Chief Resident of Ophthalmology. His interest and passion for the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma led him to complete his glaucoma fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Godfrey has many clinical and surgical interests in the management of glaucoma and cataracts. His extensive surgical experience fosters an environment for the development of new surgical techniques and devices. He has been a primary investigator in numerous surgical and pharmaceutical clinical trials and has published extensively in ophthalmology journals. 

Raised by a family of teachers, he genuinely enjoys educating residents, lecturing, and teaching medical students. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical School.

Dr. Godfrey was the primary medical developer of the Eye Institute of Texas, and past-President of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology. He currently is President of Ophthalmology Surgery Center of Dallas and CEO of Glaucoma Associates of Texas.  Dr. Godfrey has been chosen as one of the Best Doctors of America every year since 2007.

Outside of work, Dr. Godfrey enjoys spending time with his three boys, traveling, playing piano, and being active in his church.
