Matthew E. Emanuel, MD- Biography
Dr. Matthew Emanuel is a board certified ophthalmologist and surgeon, and although he is a native Californian, Dr. Emanuel has embraced the Texas lifestyle!
Dr. Emanuel completed his undergraduate training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in molecular biology and graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Emanuel studied in Granada, Spain where he became fluent in Spanish language. He subsequently pursued his medical degree at Vanderbilt University where he received the American Heart Association research fellowship award. In addition, he received the prestigious J. Donald Gass Ophthalmology Award upon graduation.
Dr. Emanuel completed his residency in ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. While at the Emory Eye Center, Dr. Emanuel was appointed as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology for two consecutive years. As Chief Resident, he played an active role in medical student and resident education. Dr. Emanuel’s clinical, surgical, and research interests in glaucoma and cataracts led him to a world class clinical glaucoma fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Emanuel’s academic endeavors have resulted in numerous publications and presentations. Currently, Dr. Emanuel is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where he is involved in resident surgical training.
Apart from ophthalmology, Dr. Emanuel enjoys snowboarding, traveling, cooking, and spoiling his nephew.
