There’s only one optician at the 4th street location so be prepare to wait if you’re coming to have your glasses adjusted. Which is obviously by design since I was kindly told to browse glasses while waiting. So overall the buying experience is good but like many places the post-selling experience is poor.

If you need contact lenses: Go somewhere else. Any other place. Just not Warby Parker on 4th street Berkeley. Unless you like to deal with floor staff that doesn’t communicate with the optometrist and give you the wrong instructions leading to 5 different shop visits to get your prescription, incessant automatic emails telling you that something is wrong (which you already know) but not leading to actually solving the issue,, email help-desk humans (?) who do not read the thread and ask you the same questions, plus having to pay up front for the contact lenses (they do not accept most insurances) and then having to deal with the process of getting reimbursed. Seriously this has been the worst experience I have had in a business…ever! This is what happened: I had a great visit with the optometrist (first shop visit) but because I had run out of contact lenses before getting there, she ordered sample contact lenses. I was supposed to wear them for a couple of days and then come back, she would check and if all was well, she would finalize the prescription and order my annual supply. A couple of days later I got the message that my samples were ready, and went to pick them up (second visit). But when I came back a few days later to the shop (third visit) the floor staff didn’t know why I was there. In fact the floor manager told me that it was not necessary for the doctor to see me, that I should just place the order. So I did. But then the automatic emails telling me something was missing (my actual contact lens prescription) started. At the same time I got a voicemail that my contacts were ready. I went back to the shop (4th time) and, again, the floor staff seemed not to know what I was talking about: what they were giving me was more sample contact lenses, not the actual annual supply. I continue to receive the automatic emails, I respond to them but it takes 4 emails to get someone to actually give me a plan of action: I need to come back to the shop (5th time) so that the doctor checks the fit of the contact lenses (As I had told them the first time). And they have spoken to the floor staff to clarify the procedure. Ok. I will do this visit next week. I still don’t know if I will have my annual supply. I still need to do more computer work to get reimbursed for these. Look, I went to Warby Parker 4th St. (Berkeley, CA) because I thought the process would be smooth and easy but this has been anything but. Terrible experience.

Awesome service, went into ask if they could fix my broken Maui Jim ear piece. They fixed it for me for free! This was a temporary fix, until I had time to send it back to Maui Jim repair and get it permanently taken care of. This way I can wear my favorite sunnies on vacation and then send then into repair later.

Very nice experience with eye exam and ordering of my glasses in here. Dr. Lauron is efficient, knowledgeable, and communicative. The staff here are helpful and patient. As a result, my lovely new glasses fit me perfectly.

I wanted a professional eye exam, not the kind covered by my insurance, so I paid cash at this facility. I was told I had cataracts and that glasses wouldn't help my vision. I took that information at face value. I was referred to a surgeon who, as it turned out, wasn't covered by my insurance. I called Albany Berkeley Optometry to ask why it was that glasses wouldn't help my vision. I was told someone would get back to me with that information. They didn't so I called back. I was then told that they felt that I would be dissatisfied after buying glasses from them because the prescription wouldn't last that long. I told them I wanted my prescription because I was never given one and they told me I could come in and pick it up. I went in and restrained myself from telling them that their reason for recommending that I shouldn't buy glasses seemed strange but instead took my prescription and left. I called up to order glasses online from my regular provider but when I went to fill in the OD I noticed it was missing from the prescription. I called the optometrist back and asked for the OD. I was then informed that unless I bought glasses from them that they would not provide that information. I told them I felt that was a predatory practice and that I would like the OD. They again refused me so I said thanks for nothing and hung up. I've been getting glasses since I was 6 years old and I had never been told that unless I bought glasses from the optometrist who did the eye exam that I would not be provided with the OD. Shortly after I hung up I received a call back telling me that they had decided to make an exception in my case and that if I paid an extra $24 that they would examine my eyes and give me the OD. I told them I would take care of it on my own. I got the OD off my last prescription because that rarely changes and ordered glasses online. When I got the glasses back I couldn't see out of them, the prescription was completely wrong. I went to another optometrist who gave me an exam and the correct prescription. When I told him how Albany Berkeley Optometry refused to give me the OD number unless I ordered glasses from them he was shocked. He said he'd never heard of such a thing. I am completely disgusted and annoyed by the way this business treats their patients. The the practice of insisting that you buy your glasses from them to get information that is automatically put on a prescription is absolutely predatory not to mention bad business. I will never go back.
