Dr. Sy completed his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. 

During his spare time, Dr. Sy loves to spend time with his wife and son. He also loves to check out new restaurants and travel the world when time allows. Dr. Sy can even occasionally be seen singing at various venues around Chicago with his band.

Ophthalmology

Harold Sy, M.D. has been a practicing physician with the Chicago Eye Intitute for over 15 years.

Following a surgical internship at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center, Dr. Sy completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cook County Hospital/John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago where he was recognized for outstanding research. Dr. Sy subsequently pursued further specialty training completing a Cornea/Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery fellowship with the Eye Consultants of Atlanta. Dr. Sy is a Board Certified diplomat with the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Sy is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Sy performs laser-assisted custom cataract surgery using the LenSx femtosecond laser platform. He also offers various advanced intraocular lens options from toric to extended depth of focus lenses. Dr. Sy also has extensive experience with refractive procedures such as custom wavelength Intralase LASIK and PRK. In addition, Dr. Sy is well-versed in the treatment of Keratoconus and utilizes INTACS, Collagen Cross Linking, and even Corneal Transplantation to treat his vast array of Keratoconus patients. Lastly, Dr. Sy offers treatments for pterygia, lid lesions, and other anterior segment pathology.

Dr. Sy’s approach is to treat each patient as if they were his own family member. He prides himself on assisting his patients to achieve and attain their maximal visual potential and goals.
