Any time I go here there is always more than an hour wait. This year I made an appointment in JANUARY for September. 1 week before the appointment they canceled both our appointments (my husband and I) and then told me they are booking into 2024. Completely unacceptable. I explained that I can’t see but apparently they don’t care.

I have been going to Eye Health Services for years. Two years ago, they were bought out by Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. Since then many of the specialists left the practice so even though you have an appointment, plan on spending at least half a day there waiting. They are so short staffed with doctors that the doctors that are left in the practice have way too many patients to see you in a timely manner. I will take my business elsewhere.

My dad has been coming here for years but we have to stop. Every appointment we wait for 1 1/2 hours at least. Good doctors but no consideration for patients time. It’s like a factory where they line people up with no regard for time. Too bad - it once was a great practice.

I saw Dr. Nussdorf for the first time last week. I had been referred by another physician in the same department. When I met him, he seemed a very personable physician and in the course of his evaluation of my condition I was very impressed. First of all, he listened to my medical history without hesitation. His evaluation was straightforward and in the process he took the time to explain it to me in detail. He was very knowledgeable and at the same affable. I came out of his office extremely satisfied with his demeanor and his expertise.

Dr. Nussdorf has been my ophthalmologist for several years treating me for glaucoma that was discovered about 30 years ago. In those years, I have had several ophthalmologists, and I believe he is the best. In addition to regular checkups and prescribing medications, he has also done surgery for the glaucoma issues I was having. He is calm, caring, and very professional, but still makes time to ask, “How are YOU doing?” That tells me he is interested in me not only as a patient, but as a person. That approach is lost in some doctor’s practices, but not in his. His staff shows that same level of personal interest. Whenever I have to contact them for any issue, I get an almost immediate reply. I highly recommend him for anyone needing an ophthalmologist.

Dr. Calix and her staff were extremely prompt - no waiting around here. They were all very polite and friendly. Dr. Calix is easy to talk with. She answered all of my questions in language that was easily understood and I felt completely at ease with her. Highly recommended.

Dr. Calyx was thorough and provided explanations and answers to questions that were asked of her. Her demeanor was friendly and she took time to evaluate my needs involving sight. I would definitely recommend her to others seeking a similar exam.

Waited almost two years to see her after she began at Ochsner, but she had read my chart before meeting and took an interest in my overall health. Not a rushed visit.

Dr. Ellis specializes in pediatric neurological ophthalmology. Take it from a mom who did the work, he IS the best in this state. Yes. You will have to wait. A while. Every appointment. Mainly because people come from all over the state and the gulf coast because of his specialty. Pack snacks, self entertainment, and take the day off work. The wait time will pass faster. (If your child needs dilation, plan on a minimum three hour appointment) Some good news? Free parking.
If you are visiting the practice for the first time or if you are a regular patient who needs to be there every 6-8 weeks, you'll see an assistant most of the time. Dr. Ellis ALWAYS came in at the end to answer questions and say hello to my family. When my child needed several surgeries, Dr. Ellis and his team made sure the experience was as safe and calm as possible for my severely anxious, autistic child.
Yes, the appointments are time-suckers but like the old saying goes, the best things in life are worth waiting for. Dr Ellis and his team are THE BEST and worth the wait.

Dr. Ellis is the best. My son is now 16 and has been seeing Dr Ellis since a very young age. Being a 1lb. 10oz premature baby, he had a lot of vision problems. He has performed 2 eye surgeries and my son has vision. I'm thankful for Dr. Ellis and Cindy.
