I had two surgeries in as many months at this center. I had one in between at St. Johns hospital Santa Monica, because Freedom was closed due to COVID19. The first time, I felt the staff was friendly , however during the procedure my pulse ox dropped to 93% due to sleep apnea. The anesthesiologist entubated me and hurt my throat. I work in the medical field. That was not necessary . Then post op, the staff complained TO ME, that I was taking too long to wake up. They wanted to go home. As if I had control of that. I wasn't languishing in their comfortable bed for a nap! The second time, the anesthesiologist Dr. Phillip Schaeffer was HORRIBLE!! He said I would be awake and able to speak but not in pain. I was in EXCRUCIATING pain! My doctor was doing eye surgery. The pain was NOT dulled as he was piercing my eye with bilateral needles. I asked them to do something for the pain. My doctor told the anesthesiologist Dr. Schaeffer to give me some thing. He came over and put something in my IV. So I waited for it to take effect. Meanwhile my Doctor is scraping the inside of my eye with needles. I trued to control the pain with breathing while my toes were flexed and hands clenched. My doctor said I need to slow my breathing. I told him he needs to do something about the pain. He told the anesthesiologist to give me something more. Dr. Scheffer the anesthesiologist argued that he already gave me a lot. My doctor told him to put me under. He then argued about how long it would be more I may not need to be under. My doctor said 40 more minutes. Then as Dr. Schaeffer prepared to do it, the nurse argued. He had to tell her my doctor said it will be 40 more minutes. Finally they put me under general anesthesia. When I woke the nurses in post op complained again that I was taking too long to wake up!!. Also when I got home I slept for four hours. This was highly IRREGULAR. When I had surgery at SCOI, I was put under with propofol. I went under nicely no pulse ox issues, woke easily, wide awake ready to go. If I could have chosen to wait a week I would have gone somewhere else. My doctor said the surgery was time sensitive and he didn't want me to wait. I am fighting to keep the the sight in my eye. DR. PHILLIP SCHAEFFER was incompetent. He knows his procedure was bad. Usually the anesthesiologist comes to you after the surgery to see how you are doing. He didn't. He knew he screwed up. Unfortunately I was pushed in to going to Freedom surgery center. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The insensitivity, callus disregard for the patient is inexcusable.

My reason for the horrible rating is that although the surgery center had my correct phone number and alternate contact details on record, there was an error with the primary mailing address so I never got a bill for the small coinsurance amount due. 3 YEARS LATER, I get a call from a collection company demanding payment. Of course since the collection company had multiple alternate ways to reach me from the account record the surgery center gave them including an unchanged phone number it took all of about 5 minutes to clear the account after the collection agency made one phone call. SO BEWARE of billing that never reaches you. Remember that the surgery center charges separately and apparently makes no effort other than snail mail to reach you if payment is not received.

Amazing team!!!! A wonderful GODLY experience. I wish all my medical experiences were like this. Best decision ever, I regret waited for this surgery so long but totally worth it. My vision it’s even better than when I wear glasses. The experience I have had with the staff was beyond my expectations all the way from the front desk, Dana (my patient counselor) to Dr. Dougherty and Dr. le was pleasant experience. Job well done and very professional.

I’ve had a really tough month. I’ve dealt with a lot of people who didn’t come through on what they said they were going to. This experience was NOT that, they were just the opposite. These guys didn’t drop the ball, not once. I’m so super happy with my vision, now 20/15. Hands down the best thing I did for myself so far this year and I’m so grateful for their professionalism and Dr. Dougherty’s skill and confidence. You all made this a pretty painless journey. I’m so happy with the way everything turned out. I do and I will most definitely recommend DLV to anyone who is considering lasik or any other surgery provided here. It’s simply amazing to wake up with perfect vision after 25 years. Thank you to everyone involved in the process at any step, your kindness and knowledge is appreciated.

Was able to get in right away with an eye injury. Staff was friendly and helpful. The doctor I saw was quick to find the problem and treated me accordingly. My only concern was she didn't explain what she was doing because she used medical terms I wasn't familiar with. I had to say, "Can you please explain what you just said." I know I was squeezed in but I definitely felt rushed. Having said that, my eye issue resolved quickly. I can deal with the rest because I felt I was getting excellent care.

A friend of mine about 2 weeks ago attended to this office and complained for her eyes that have rashes and complained about her eyes have vision issues. This doctor without notification did couple of procedures without getting approval from her and since the procedures her eyes got worst. She has more and more severe condition from prior attended to this office. After returning back to this office he tried to convince her do another procedures to fix the issue but I suggest her not giving any permission to them to do anything to her eyes. As I tried to discuss the issue with him because my friend not speaking English well, they refused to talk to me even when my friend approved that. Worst eye clinic. Do not sign anything with this clinic before you make sure you understand the contents of what you sign. Never attend this clinic.

Dear Dr. Rezapour, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful treatment you provided my mother for her Cataracts. We had previously consulted with UCLA’s Julia Stein Eye Institute. Because my mother suffers from tremors, we were informed that the procedure would be very difficult to perform. My mother decided she wanted to seek a second opinion and we came to you. She immediately felt comfortable with you and your staff. The breadth of your knowledge and experience put her mind at ease and both she and I agreed that with you, she would be in great hands, and we were right. You were able to answer all of our questions and we were able to arrange for her cataracts surgery right away. The surgeries went extremely smoothly and my mother (who has severe anxiety) couldn’t believe how comfortable she was through the entire process. And now, she has perfect vision. Thank you for all that you’ve done for my mother. We wouldn’t hesitate recommending you to anyone.

This office is very welcoming and comfortable. The staff is efficient, kind and caring. Dr. Katsman is absolutely fabulous! So warm and personable, she always makes me feel at ease. She takes the time to explain exactly what’s going on with my eyes and treatment options. I know I’m receiving the best care from Dr. Katsman, and I’m so happy I was referred to this office!

Called to schedule an appointment during work hours and spent good 10 minutes on the phone with the associate. After taking all my personal information including my last four of SSN they tell me the only optometrist at the location I need is on maternity leave. No apologies given for inefficient process. I hope they erased all the personal information I provided over the phone. Please update your website with doctors that are actually able to see patients and please ask new patients which location they would like to go to before taking their PII.

I went to my first appointment last year and it was great and was hoping that scheduling a year ahead would be beneficial. Unfortunately it was not so. Totally understand that the Dr is on maternity leave, I just wish the staff would of have done due diligence to reschedule appointments or let us know that the office is closed instead of receiving an automated text to confirm appointments. Wasted time at the office today that was closed.
