Monica P. Nguyen,
Monica Nguyen, OD, FAAO, has been named Fenway Health’s new Director of Optometry. Monica has been a staff Optometrist here at Fenway since 2021, providing care for hundreds of patients every year while also serving as a preceptor for 3rd and 4th year optometry students.
“Monica is energetic and positive and eager to foster a workplace culture centered on cross-team relationships and staff morale while centering high-quality equitable care,” said Jordina Shanks, Fenway Health Chief Operating Officer. “She is also an incredible mentor for the next generation of optometrists, creating a safe and collaborative learning environment for our interns.”
Prior to her time at Fenway, Monica was an Optometrist /Instructor in Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center for 7 years and worked in private practice at Family Eye Care in Monroe, Louisiana. She received her Doctorate of Optometry degree from The University of Houston College of Optometry and furthered her education as an Ocular Disease/Family Practice resident at The Bond Wroten Eye Clinics in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She completed her undergraduate degree at Louisiana State University. Alongside her work at Fenway, Monica is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, where she holds a leadership appointment and lectures on a national stage, and volunteers regularly with the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
“I am honored to be chosen to serve as the new Optometry Director. As I step into this role, that famous quote from Friday Night Lights comes to mind, ‘Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!’” said Monica. “I am excited to bring new energy to this team and committed to growing the department and collaborating with staff and the whole health center to bring high quality, equitable eye care and eyewear to our community.
