Took excellent care of me.

Dr. Backas is one of the best optometrists you will ever have the pleasure of getting an eye exam from. He is incredibly thorough PLUS he is one of the most kind, good natured and generous people you will come in contact with. Don't be discouraged that is a walmart - make your appt today! The other staff in the optical department are really fantastic as well.

Doctor is smart, kind, and good price for exam. Staff running vision center can be a little difficult at times getting scripts sent over to other vision centers and stuff and slow most of the time, but go there for Dr. John Backes. Husband … More

From the first day reaching out to the Eye Institute for Surgery and Medicine, the staff was amazing. Appointment setting was a breeze. The staff made sure it was me at every handoff. Testing and evaluation was thorough and precise. Then, there’s Dr.Jim McManus. He is a happy man and it shows with his staff. The whole environment feels like family. He greets you with a smile and a handshake, every time and takes the time to explain procedures, and processes to your satisfaction. The surgery staff were attentive to make certain the correct eye was being worked on and that I was comfortable, warm and ready to proceed. I was able to ask questions of the doctor while undergoing surgery. Each professional responsible for my care went above and beyond to make certain of a positive outcome. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. James McManus for your eye care and surgery. I haven’t seen this hood , even with glasses for 50+ years!! Thanks so much for a wonderful experience and great vision going forward!!

Dr. McManus suddenly without warning to his patients left the eye institute. Nobody is talking about why nor when asked, "stated we are shocked and not at liberty to say". When the receptionist called to ask if I wanted my records, I said schedule with another doctor.

Today: I have a f/up appt with the ophthalmologist to look at a concerning discoloration they found on my eye 6 mos ago. She wanted to check to see if any changes had occurred. The techs try to convince me that I’m there for glasses. I explained that I already have glasses (the ones on my face they sold me 6 mos ago.) and I was there for a f/up appt. The technician took me back, could not locate the prior photos. She went to get Dr. Estrada. Dr. Estrada walked in and flatly said, “You don’t need to be here for this.” To which I replied, “Actually I do, the last Dr. told me I needed to be seen in 6 months to see if there was any change. And my sister died from ocular melanoma, she told me to come back so I do need to be here.” He said, “Ok take the pictures and I’ll look at them.” The tech took 2 pictures. When I asked to see the old pictures she couldn’t find them through the search by my last name (I watched her enter my last name and the screen went blank. She asked me to wait in the waiting room for the doctor to look at the photos she just took. I was then sent into a room with Dr. Estrada. He entered the letter “r” into the last name field and nothing came up. He said the tech had not saved the pictures, left the room, came back in, cleared the “r” from the search field, moved the mouse around in circles then curtly said, “We’re going to have to take the photos again. But you really should be seeing a Retinologist.” THIS MAN HAD NOT YET SEEN ANY PHOTOS OF MY EYE EVER OBTAINED BY AMERICA’S BEST - NOW ON 2 OCCASIONS. HE HAD NOT EVEN EXAMINED ME. HE HAD NOT EVEN INTRODUCED HIMSELF TO ME. He followed up this curt dismissal with the most insulting thing he could possible conjure, “You really shouldn’t mess around with this. I have my wife see a Retinologist.” I literally stood up and said, “Excuse me?? I’m not messing around with this - that’s why I AM HERE! The only messing around is the way this entire appointment has been handled!” I literally walked out as he was still offering to send me to a Retinologist. These people are dangerously incompetent.

It has been almost 25 years since I have went to have my eyes checked. In 2020 my sight started going blurry. I used reading glasses to compensate and that was working. I knew that I needed to have my eyes checked so today I finally did that. The optometrist was knowledgeable and made the experience enjoyable. He has a great sense of humor and used it to help put me at ease. I would much rather go to the dentist and have all my teeth pulled without Novocaine than have any thing near my eyes or have test done on them. I highly recommend this site. His from desk employee was friendly and knowledgeable as well.

My first time here and had a exceptional experience. My daughter is 7 and her first eye appointment. I was pleased on how friendly the staff and optometrist were. The optometrist was lovely and gave great advice. Will be returning!
