I went for my eye exam to Mr. David Folkers at 510 S Murphy Ave, Sunnyvale, CA 94086. He gave me a prescription, offered to make my glasses with that prescription but I refused the offer. I then got my glasses done elsewhere with the prescription that was provided to me by David. The power did not feel right and I wrote to David asking to see me again to find out what was wrong. He refused to meet with, after my repeated asking, just chose to correspond with me via email and completely refusing to meet with me stating that "he already spent enough time with me." I still cannot wear my new glasses.
I have filed a complaint with optometry board. Avoid going to this person at all cost. He is extremely unprofessional and actually does not care about anything other than getting the money from insurance.

They gave me my first pair of glasses and called them "general" I guess meaning I could use them for reading or driving etc. When I received the glasses something was not right and it never got better. They did not improve my vision and they certainly didn't work for close & far. I felt very sick when trying to get used to them and when I complained to the doctor they kept dragging me along saying "just keep trying to get used to them". At first I needed to try two weeks, then they said one month and eventually it was clear he wasn't going to be accountable. I went to get a second opinion and the second eye doctor said that the prescription was too strong and the astigmatism was reversed on Dr Folkers prescription. Glasses are supposed to make your life easier, but his prescription made me miserable for months before I went to a different doctor. He was happy to take my money and unwilling to help me improve my life.

I am a loyal customer to Dr folkers for more than 20 years. I trust him with my eyes and I find that he always is very thorough, professional, and puts me at ease. It's been an interesting journey as his patient as I have grown older and my eyes continue to change and he really explains things well to me. He's a great doctor.

Dr Mendelson and his staff are very professional. I was having issues with both my vision and keeping my eye lid from drooping. Dr. Mendelson was able to treat it and give an accurate diagnosis. He is very patient, kind, and understanding. I highly recommend Silicon Valley Eyecare.

I was nearsighted with -1.50 in the right eye and -2.00 in the left eye when I went to see Dr. Yichieh Shiuey for a PRK consultation (I am not a candidate for LASIK). Dr. Shiuey strongly urged me to get "monovision'', where my left eye would be purposely left nearsighted for near vision (like reading) while my right eye would receive the standard laser vision correction for distance vision (like driving). Dr. Shiuey urged me to have monovision because I use the computer extensively for work. He said that with monovision, I wouldn't need reading glasses until I was 60+, even though I don't wear reading glasses now and I'm under 45. Dr. Shiuey used the phoropter to simulate monovision (for a mere 30 seconds or less) to show me that I could still read the text on the wall and upclose. At the consultation, I agreed with Dr. Shiuey's recommendation.
At no point in time did Dr. Shiuey prescribed a contact lens trial to see if I could tolerate monovision. I've never tried monovision in the past. I only learned later, through two second opinions, that contact lens trial (for two weeks at minimum) was standard and prudent practice prior to actual monovision surgery. A 30-second phoropter test isn't sufficient to determine whether a patient could tolerate monovision for the rest of her life.
About a month prior to my surgery, I had changed my mind because intentionally leaving one eye nearsighted just didn't sit well with me. I called his office to say that I wanted the standard, full vision correction for both eyes. His assistant (Kristen) had said she'd let Dr. Shiuey know. No one from his office had contacted me after my call to discuss.
On the day of my surgery, I confirmed with Dr. Shiuey that we would be proceeding with full vision correction for both eyes. Dr. Shiuey informed me then that while he would operate on both eyes, he'd only do a very minor correction on the left eye, thus still intentionally leaving that eye nearsighted. Dr. Shiuey had informed me of his unilateral decision while I was in the pre-operating room under the sedation of Valium, only minutes prior to my surgery, without any prior discussions with me (even though this was an elective surgery), and despite the fact that he never prescribed a contact lens trial to see if I'd be a good candidate for monovision and at what prescription.
The results are disastrous. At 6 months post-op, I ended up the left eye nearsighted at -2.25, which is worse than pre-op (no prescription in my right eye). I knew I hated monovision immediately, just a few days post-surgery. Dr. Shiuey's response was that I'll eventually get used to it, as most patients do within a year. This response completely misses the mark. People can, of course, get used to most types of handicap overtime, but there is no reason for me to endure the monovision handicap when I simply do not want or need it. Monovision has left me feeling constantly nauseated due to the imbalance across my eyes. Just days after surgery, I've had to begin wearing glasses or contacts every waking minute to bring my eyes back into balance in order to perform daily tasks or work. I cannot see clearly far or close without the aid of contacts or glasses due to the severe disparity. I now need to endure another painful PRK surgery and recovery time to remove the monovision. I will not be going back to Dr. Shiuey as I do not believe he respected or considered my preferences, nor did he abide by the reasonable standard of care pre-op.
I believe that Dr. Shiuey did not adequately take the time and care to discuss my concerns, and instead, outright disregarded my preferences. His strong push for monovision, particularly when I had expressed a desire to avoid monovision, caused me unnecessary pain and suffering without any offsetting benefit. Most egregiously, it is my opinion that Dr. Shiuey was medically negligent when he proceeded with monovision eye surgery on me without a contact lens trial. I have filed a complaint against Dr. Shiuey at the Medical Board of CA.

OMG!!!! I am soooo glad I waited this long to have my Lasix procedure done. Dr. Shiuey was incredibly wonderful in explaining the procedure and was very honey as to what my experience would be post op. this is my week one after my Lasix and I couldn't be more happier. He is very knowledgeable and I felt so confident under his care. Kristin who arranged my procedure was so friendly and explained everything I had questions on. WONDERFUL TEAM. GO PAMF!!! oh and the new building is fabulous.
so this is my 2 months follow up with Dr. Shiuey. My vision is still perfect except the fact that my eyes are at times a little dry, but this is an expected side effect as explained by Dr. Shiuey. I am still over the moon on having had my procedure. So for anyone who is still on the fence on having this done, think no further as this is the place to go. GOOGLE PEOPLE, I KNOW FOR A FACT A LOT OF YOU WEAR GLASSES! HAVE YOUR CUSTOM LASIX DONE BY DR. SHIUEY AND IT WILL BE LIFE CHANGING. Don't even think about it anymore and just go schedule an appointment with Kristin as she is such a jewel. From the initial consultation to post op it was very seamless. Again Thank you Dr. Shiuey for giving me back my vision.

This place is very bad. I was helped by this associate and he has absolutely no interest in serving customers. I suspect that the charges were incorrect and went back to just asked that the charges be reviewed, which I don't think it is anything too much to ask, but was refused. The reason he cited is that he has no way to pull my record once it is submitted to VSP.....what kind of story is that?

Jason Wong's exam was abrasive, rough, and insensitive. We felt harassed and I was so upset by the end of the exam tears came out because I was so angry that my mother in law had to experience his beratement at age 77. It was supposed to be a nice bonding time since I was visiting from out of town. Instead I left without a written prescription and she couldn't get her sunglasses replaced.
This "doctor" is jaded and his arrogance inhibits him from being qualified to help anyone. He can't even spend 20 seconds listening to the customer. We were interrupted with assumptions and then felt pushed out the door even though the new prescription was more blurry. His statements also felt pushy and contradictory and he didn't bother to explain anything thoroughly.
I read other reviews after and several others had the same unprofessional experience of him talking down to them, cutting them off, and rushing them out with a prescription that was either too strong or posed problems later because it wasn't what they needed.
His tone from the get go was off putting. He was just downright mean and rude with his exam technique. Hum hawing and sighing in frustration for no reason as if we were a nuisance or did something wrong. It also felt like he was treating us badly because of her age and the language barrier. We felt bullied.
He started by saying her prescription changed dramatically in the last two years and that something must have happened which worried her for no reason. He questioned the paperwork she brought in for her current prescription and pressured us to use his even before we started the exam.
I was translating for my mom and I could see that she felt intimidated to answer honestly because he was dismissing her concerns instead of properly explaining anything.
He didn't give enough time for her to see the letters before he flipped to the next one and rushed her to answer. In a condescending tone, he had the audacity to say she wasn't trying hard enough a few times even though the letters were so small and blurry she couldn't make them out. He made her feel really bad and stressed out with his tone and approach. He didn't ask but told us what version looks better even though she said it was more blurry than her current prescription. It had to be his way. And then he questioned her cataracts surgery and made it sound like there was something wrong with the way it was done without explaining anything. Then he pushed us out the door.
It validated that the exam was a waste of time and that his qualifications were questionable. I had enough. We didn't feel comfortable with the prescription and I was not going to pay for being harassed. I told him that this was a very rough experience for us and that he shouldn't treat anyone this way. I felt bad she had to experience this. Seeing that I was upset he said that "we can pretend this exam never happened" which was a cowardly way to back out of the exam and pretend he didn't just treat us poorly. He showed us the numbers and said the difference was negligible from her current prescription, which contradicted the big scare he gave at the beginning. What baloney.
I wish the exam never happened. I am LIVID. We felt so violated and uncomfortable. Afterward my mother shared with me that he scared her and talked to us like we were stupid, and that she thought there was something really wrong with her eyes. It makes me so angry that she had to experience that behavior especially after having gone through so much in her lifetime.
She had such a horrible headache when she got home and her eyes hurt because she had strained them so badly trying to see the letters even though he was scoffing that she wasn't trying her best.
Don't waste your time or energy.
Costco should do better. This is a huge disservice to customers who simply need a competent optometrist who is kind and doesn't berate customers because of his own personal issues.
