Young Eye Clinic
I’ve been going to Dr. Young for many years now. He’s a great optometrist and I’ve never had any problems with him regarding the care he provides. However, it seems that the front desk staff is constantly changing and I find that concerning. At my most recent appointment, I was quoted one amount from one of the receptionist and a different amount from the other receptionist. It is clear to me that they are not on the same page and still have some things to work out in the office. I found myself very frustrated to be quoted a higher amount than usual as to what I was expected to pay due to improper training. Thankfully the other receptionist was able to check me out appropriately or I’d otherwise would have paid $70 more than what I had to pay. This situation and the lack of glasses options will likely result in my family going elsewhere for our optometry needs in the future.

Broke some new ground during the visit with Dr. Watson by reviewing for age-related eye issues. This involved taking photos of the back of my eye that were fascinating to review.
It took some time to understand that this could be achieved without dilation-- a fact I think should be touted up front in appointments. I jumped at the chance to gain so much information about my eye health without having to submit to this imposing test!

The customer service is top notch. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a lesser known center so I was able to get an exam and order what I needed all in less than an hour. I’m very satisfied with my experience.

I went for a regular eye exam and following the exam, Dr. Qian stated that I was unable to take my prescriptions unless I bought contacts through his practice. I am insured and knew that this was inaccurate, however he grew increasingly irate and stated that if I did not pay for my contacts and bill them through him, I would not be able to leave with my prescription. Feeling extremely pressured, I decided to pay for the contacts and took my prescription. Following this appointment, I contacted my insurance and they informed me that Dr. Qian was incorrect and that I had the right to my prescription through my annual exam, without further purchase. I called back with my insurance provider on the line and Pacific Vision Care Center immediately changed their story and refunded me for the contacts.

I don’t write reviews but I saw something at my recent year end check up that I need to share. Dr. Ban always has the latest high tech instruments to enhance his services beyond getting his patients fitted with the right glasses aligned perfectly to their unique faces. While we are going through this crazy COVID-19 pandemic, he invested in the latest medical grade high resolution camera that can take clear and magnified pictures of the retinas. With this new tool, he is able to catch problems that would have go unnoticed until there’s no option left but surgery (like retina detachments - a co-worker of mine is recovering from this surgery...this could have been avoided if caught earlier). I saw my retinas from all angles in great details for the first time during my visit! I know this is able to be done using that unpleasant way to keep your pupil dilated but a picture says a thousand words and you actually can see for yourself and make the right decisions as needed to prevent further damage to your eyes on the spot with certainty. So don’t forget to get your eyes checked, especially when all of us (including the little ones) are spending more hours in front of the computer at home. The staff is also very nice and friendly. Hope this helps. Stay healthy and safe. Hope 2021 will a better year for everyone! Thank you Dr. Ban!!! 👍👍👍👍👍

Mayberry Vision
I was going to leave a bad review.
I got fitted for contacts at Mayberry Vision and had a reaction I had never had before in my life. My eye had red veins running through it and a fluid blister that the doctor later told me must have been something I already had that got inflamed by the lenses. I have worn contacts for years and never had a single issue, so this was new and it worried me because it is my eyesight we are talking about.
I called the office from home to let them know I needed to return the contacts. They told me to come in and pick up a different trial set to try out, and that they would replace the bad ones once I figured out what worked. That part was fine.
When I got to the office, I told them I also needed to talk to somebody about the blister and the redness because it was concerning me. That is where it went sideways. The lady at the front desk told me I would have to pay another fee to be seen by the doctor because it was the doctor's time. As if my time was not worth anything. I tried to explain that I was not asking for a full new exam, I was asking the doctor who prescribed me these lenses to look at the reaction her own prescription caused. She would not back down. She was going to charge me that fee no matter what I said, and she made that very clear.
So I got on the phone with the state licensing board. I had their number pulled up and was already talking to them when the doctor herself called me back. She was great. She reassured me that my eyesight was not in danger, explained that my eyes just did not respond well to that first lens, and offered me another trial pair to find something that worked. That is all I ever wanted from the beginning.
This is not about the money. I would pay $200,000 if it meant saving my eyesight. It is about the fact that I should not have had to call a licensing board to get my own optometrist on the phone about a reaction to the lenses her office prescribed me. The doctor did right by me. The front desk is a different story, and that kind of personality is not what a doctor's office needs when their patients are networked in this city and talk to people. Reputation moves fast in Reno, both directions.
Im glad the doctor called me I was just about to find a different solution.
She's very sweet and I think more people should be like her as for the lady at the front desk not so much.

I have always been impressed with Dr. Bircher's ability to relate to her patients and to answer all their questions. She has given me help with several issues over the past few years, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good eye doctor.
