Daniel Esmaili
Dr. Daniel D. Esmaili is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Physiological Sciences at the University of California Los Angeles, Dr. Esmaili obtained his medical degree with highest distinction from the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
Following an internship at the Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA, he completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute, UCLA Stein Eye Institute. He went on to complete a prestigious two-year surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) of Harvard Medical School where he was selected as chief vitreoretinal fellow. Following the completion of his fellowship, Dr. Esmaili joined the full time academic faculty at MEEI/Harvard where he also served as Medical Director of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Retina Consultants satellite practice.
Dr. Esmaili has been actively involved in a number of research studies and clinical research trials. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has frequently presented at local and national scientific meetings. In recognition of his contribution, he has received a number of awards, including the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship and the Pan-American Ophthalmological Foundation Paul Kayser International Scholarship Award.
Dr. Esmaili’s main areas of interest include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, disorders of the vitreomacular interface, and retinal detachment.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
