Dr. Shaw truly is a professional. He was very patient with me, helpful as well. However, I think he has at least 2 assistants, 1 is very very pleasant. The other? Not so much, as they say. Dr. Shaw, I just wanted to point that out to you in hopes that maybe you can discuss the matter with your staff.

My first time here and my last, very terse and rude. Eye specialist was very unhelpful and was very inconsiderate to my lack of knowledge. Asked me one question then told me to go backwards that "they", the eye group, could do nothing for me. Okay fine but work with me. Could have given me numbers to call, resource eead up on, things to be aware of. Something rather then we won't help you.

Not flawless but very good service, quality of exam and glasses. I’m working on an appointment to buy additional pair and contacts.

Dr John Liu is a 5 Star Doctor! Highly recommend him! HOWEVER, as other reviewers have mentioned the staff are uninterested, unprofessional and unfriendly. I actually complained to Dr Liu at my visit but he appeared not to believe me.

Today was my second visit to Apex. I had seen Dr. Gullet several years ago and had great treatment. However, I called to make an appointment because my vision has gotten worse over quickly. The receptionist was rude on the phone, but I let it go because people have bad days. But when I went for the appointment I was left in the front lobby over an hour. They were taking back people who came in long after I came in. Finally I made it to the back and then I was left in that lobby for nearly another hour. I couldn't wait any longer because I had other appointments. But over 2 hours and didn't see the doctor. Never going back.

I recommend you go somewhere else, I waited 3 hours for appointments, paid over $1000.00 to get nothing done. I was told I had 3 things going on with my eyes, which I knew, that's why I went to them and was given no solution. It's 4 months later and a billing nightmare. They sent a bill, I paid it. Then they sent another bill 2 weeks later, saying it was a facility charge. I talked to the billing department and they said if I paid this amount, I would be paid in full. They returned my check. The next month another bill comes, twice as much as the last bill. Talk to the billing (dept). again, they didn't get enough money from the insurance company so they were billing me. Paid that and now I got a notice that if I don't pay within 10 days, it goes to collection. Mind you, I have called the billing dept. 3 times and sent what they have said, asked for an itemized bill, never got one. Called again to complain, was put on hold for 15 min. told a manager would call me right back... that was 3 hours ago.

It took them over a week to even call me back. I've found this common across UCSF and have started seeking care elsewhere.
